Job summary

New Mexico Gas Company is seeking a Technical Trainer specializing in Cathodic Protection to educate, certify, and mentor employees and contractors, ensuring the safe and reliable operation of our natural gas system. You will lead classroom, shop, and field training, develop content, and evaluate program effectiveness to support workforce excellence and regulatory compliance.

Strong technical background in CP, plus hands-on training experience, are essential.

Qualifications

  • Seven years of gas/utility/oil operations or engineering experience; college degree may reduce up to four years of experience.
  • Minimum of three years of Cathodic Protection experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean record.
  • Preferred: Welding/certifications (CWI, Journeyman Gas Fitter, CDL) and related training experience.

  • Facilitates classroom, shop, and field training programs and conducts performance evaluations.
  • Provides technical subject matter consultation and troubleshooting for projects and field work.
  • Teaches, demonstrates, and models safe work practices at all times.

This position will be open to internal and external applicants and will close on Sunday, September 27, 2026.

This position pays between $78,640.00 to $98,300.00 and is based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate.

About this Opportunity

Protect critical infrastructure while developing the next generation of industry experts. As a Technical Trainer specializing in Cathodic Protection (CP), you'll leverage your technical expertise to train, qualify, and mentor employees and contractors, helping ensure the safe, reliable operation of our natural gas system. Your leadership will directly support workforce excellence, regulatory compliance, and the integrity of the assets that serve our communities.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitates classroom, shop, and field training programs and conducts performance evaluations for participants.
  • Serves as a technical expert in the areas of assigned expertise and keeps abreast of new trends and technology in field of expertise.
  • Provides technical subject matter consultation and troubleshooting for projects and field work.
  • Teaches, demonstrates, and models safe work practices at all times.
  • Conducts site visits to ensure proper procedures and practices are being followed in all operations areas.
  • Designs, develops, revises, and implements technical training program content and structure.
  • Develops annual training schedule and arranges program logistics. Evaluates program effectiveness regularly.
  • Provides individualized training/re‑training to aid in the development and enhancement of job skills and technical knowledge.
  • Researches, analyzes, evaluates and recommends new equipment to management.
  • Partners with business unit to develop and implement company technical training strategy.
  • Researches, interprets, and presents statistics and data relating to training including designing data collection and communicating through reports and proposals.
  • Recommends budgets, procures, maintains, and operates specialized equipment not normally provided to or operated by field personnel.

Successful Candidate Must Have

  • A high school diploma or GED with a minimum of seven (7) years of related gas, utility, or oil industry operations or engineering experience in progressively more complex assignments. A relevant college degree will be considered in lieu of up to four (4) years of the required gas, utility or oil industry operations or engineering experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Cathodic Protection (CP)
  • A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Preferred: Prior adult training experience, steel pipeline welding experience and/or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), pipeline inspection experience, Journeyman Gas Fitter License (JG), Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

Field/classroom environment. May be required to work at various job sites, out of town, and/or remote locations. Regularly required to stand and/or walk up to 2/3 of the time and sit up to 1/3 of the time. Manual dexterity required. Ability to climb and balance; stoop, kneel crouch or crawl; and to talk, listen, taste or smell. Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must occasionally lift and/or more than 50 pounds. May be exposed to wet, humid and/or outdoor weather conditions; may work near moving mechanical parts, fumes and/or airborne particles, toxic and/or caustic chemicals; extreme heat, risk of electrical shock and/or radiation; vibration, and/or very loud noise. Working in hazardous environments that include high-pressure gas, chemicals and automatic equipment is required.
