Job description

Title: Technical Support Engineer II

Duration: 4 months

Work Location: Clarksville, TN – Fully Onsite

Work Schedule: Normal East Time Business Hours, Monday – Friday

Project Overview:

The goal of this team is to reduce/minimize damage and its impact on Data Center hardware. This includes inspection, testing, and repair of critical components to ensure reliable and well-maintained Data Center hardware.

Overall Responsibilities:

This role is focused on quality assurance, primarily monitoring and reducing damage to data center hardware parts.

  • Assist site leadership in efforts to reduce damage at each Data Center by spot-checking process staging areas for proper handling, packaging, and storage of parts.
  • Support the damaged parts process, ensuring damaged parts are verified, quarantined, and not mixed with good products.
  • Identify and escalate issues affecting part damage.
  • Provide excursion support for key field campaigns and failure investigations.
Top Daily Responsibilities:
  1. Perform DIMM testing for diagnostics and Post Package Repair (PPR).
  2. Conduct special damage inspections and repairs of critical parts.
  3. Perform PCB quick testing for re-inventory of boards (~100 boards/week).
  4. Verify damage reports on parts, inspecting up to 100 parts weekly.
  5. Repair damaged parts.
  6. Clean thermal paste from CPUs.
  7. Straighten bent connectors.
  8. Replace missing parts such as CPU carrier frames and dust covers.
  9. Audit handling, ESD processes, and packing procedures at Data Centers.
Mandatory Skills/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in a technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a technical environment.
  • Knowledge of electronic parts used in Data Center hardware (motherboards, DIMMs, drives, network cards, optics).
  • First-level failure analysis skills for electronic components.
  • Understanding of mechanical defects in electronic hardware.
  • Ability to perform detailed inspections for hours, using equipment like microscopes and ring lights.
  • Proficiency in recording and reporting data via PC.
  • Ability to write process instructions and SOPs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with and influence others.
  • Physical strength for medium to heavy handling tasks.
Non-Essential Skills/Qualifications:
  • Quality assurance experience in electronics.
  • Troubleshooting/repair background in servers, storage, or networking products.
  • Experience with spreadsheets and databases.
