Job summary

Dell Technologies seeks an experienced Acoustic Engineer to lead the analysis, design, and optimization of acoustic performance across products and environments. Qualifications

  • Expertise in acoustic theory, wave propagation, psychoacoustics, vibration analysis, and signal processing.
  • Proficient with industry-standard acoustic and vibration simulation tools (LMS Virtual.Lab, COMSOL, ANSYS, Actran, NASTRAN).
  • Experience with acoustic measurement and data acquisition systems (microphones, accelerometers) for lab and field testing.
  • Proven ability to design, evaluate, and validate noise control treatments to achieve acoustic performance objectives.
  • Strong technical leadership and communication skills for presenting findings to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead acoustic engineering activities across the product development lifecycle, including target setting, design analysis, and validation to meet requirements.
  • Develop and apply advanced acoustic modeling techniques; perform noise source identification and root-cause analysis; translate results into design improvements.
  • Design, evaluate, and implement noise and vibration mitigation strategies (barriers, absorbers, isolators, damping treatments).
  • Plan, oversee, and interpret laboratory and field acoustic testing; ensure data correlation and compliance with standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive acoustic performance goals and advance tools, processes, and best practices.

Technical Staff (Acoustics), Engineering Technologist

We are seeking a highly experienced Acoustic Engineer to lead the analysis, design, and optimization of acoustic performance across a range of products and environments. This role requires deep technical expertise in noise and vibration (NVH), sound quality, and acoustic modeling, along with the ability to guide cross-functional teams and influence system-level design decisions.

What you’ll achieve:

As a Technical Staff (Acoustics), you’ll provide expert guidance on technology investigations, prototyping strategies, and data generation that drive product decisions. You’ll synthesize insights from experiments and literature to advise leaders and shape roadmaps. You will mentor technologists and contribute to playbooks and tool improvements.

You will:
  • Lead acoustic engineering activities throughout the product development lifecycle, including system-level target setting, design analysis, and validation to meet customer and performance requirements
  • Develop and apply advanced acoustic and vibration modeling techniques, perform noise source identification and root cause analysis, and translate simulation and test results into design improvements
  • Design, evaluate, and implement noise and vibration mitigation solutions, including barriers, absorbers, isolators, and damping treatments to optimize product performance
  • Plan, oversee, and interpret laboratory and field acoustic testing, ensuring correlation between measured and simulated data while maintaining compliance with applicable industry standards and regulations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, customers, and stakeholders to drive acoustic performance objectives, provide technical leadership and mentorship, and advance engineering tools, processes, and best practices

Essential Requirements:
  • Demonstrated expertise in acoustic theory, wave propagation, psychoacoustics, vibration analysis, and signal processing, including advanced frequency-domain analysis techniques
  • Proficient in industry-standard acoustic and vibration simulation tools such as LMS Virtual.Lab, COMSOL, ANSYS, Actran, and NASTRAN for modeling, analysis, and validation
  • Experienced in the use of acoustic measurement and data acquisition systems, including microphones, accelerometers, and related instrumentation for laboratory and field testing
  • Proven ability to design, evaluate, and validate noise control treatments, materials, and mitigation solutions to achieve acoustic performance objectives
  • Strong technical leadership and communication skills, with the ability to lead complex investigations, make data-driven decisions, and effectively present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
Desirable Requirements:
  • Typically requires 15+ years of related experience in a professional role with a Bachelor's degree; or 12+ years and a Master's degree; or 8+ years and a PhD; or equivalent experience
  • Experience in consumer product sound quality engineering, including the use of Python, MATLAB, or similar tools for automation and analysis, regulatory compliance and product certification activities, and leading cross-functional projects that influence key product design decisions
Compensation

Dell is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this position is $229,500 - $297,000.
