Responsibilities

• Read and determine applicability of national codes and standard clauses for the equipment under test (EUT).
• Read schematics and manufacturing instructions.
• Validate project scope and sample applicability.
• Package and log samples; move equipment as needed.
• Complete preliminary design reviews (PDR) on/off site.
• Set up and operate standard test equipment (e.g., spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope).
• Perform testing per standards including rating, leakage current, dielectric, temperature, etc.
• Mentor less senior technical personnel.
• Provide quotes with project scope and required resources.
• Develop product knowledge and act as reviewer or expert in a category.
• Perform field labeling jobs and client-facing support.
• Communicate status and results to clients and management.
• Identify and document engineering judgments within policy.
• Perform other duties as required.

What are we looking for?

This Technical Specialist position is responsible for performing testing and evaluation on a variety of Life Safety and Security products to determine compliance with applicable US, Canadian and other International product safety standards; writing reports; and communicating with clients, creating evaluation reports and test plans, conducting and/or witnessing testing, resolving technical and/or administrative issues. This position has the potential for 25% travel.

Salary & Benefits Information

The salary range for this position is $80,000-$100,000 per year. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

What you’ll do:

• Read and determine applicability of national codes and standard clauses for the EUT (equipment under test);
• Read and understand schematics and manufacturing instructions.
• Validate the project scope and sample applicability.
• Follow sample handling procedures, ensuring that sample is logged in and out of the system. Move equipment as needed through the facility. Properly package sample for shipment.
• Complete preliminary design reviews (PDR) both on and off site.
• Set up and operate standard test equipment including, but not limited to spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope, multi-meter, dielectric strength tester, ground continuity tester, digital multi-meter, surge generator, over-voltage tester, environmental condition chamber, and articulated probes. Use hand tools to build/calibrate test fixtures.
• Perform testing of products in accordance with standards. Core tests include, but are not limited to: rating, leakage current, dielectric, temperature, pressure, stability, mechanical hazard, flammability, abnormal and fault insurance, rain, radiation, sound, and laser.
• Mentor less senior technical personnel.
• Supply information for quotes such as length of project, site needed, rental equipment, samples, and standards that will be used.
• Provide more specialized "expertise" in one product category, i.e., become reviewer, resident expert, or obtain and maintain advanced product knowledge.
• Perform field labeling jobs.
• Provide sales support such as attending client visits.
• Communicate project status and test results to client, sales personnel, and management throughout testing. Provide on-going support to clients as needed.
• Within policy guidelines, identify, properly document, and recommend engineering judgments.
• Perform other work as required.
