Job DescriptionRole Summary:In this role you’ll lead strategy and advanced technology development for power inverters and power electronics (PE) system design & integration to meet GM’s future Electric Vehicle (EV) portfolio needs.Hybrid: This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week.Role & Responsibilities:Set strategic direction, coordinate technology roadmaps, and provide technical leadership for power inverters and PE system design & integrationDevelop and manage technology for advanced power inverters and PE system designLead advanced technology development on power inverters, including design, analysis, testing, and report out via advanced technical work processResponsible for developing advanced inverter and PE solutions to meet key performance and cost targets for future EVs by working collaboratively with Product Engineering, Systems Engineering, Modeling, Analysis, Cost Engineering, Planning, Manufacturing, and Program teamsSpecify system requirements, including balancing interdisciplinary requirements for optimized system and subsystem performanceCoordinate efforts of technical support staff and the performance of assigned projectsLead global advanced benchmarking activities. Stay abreast of new technology and competitive productsUtilize methods and tools such as modeling, simulation, systems analysis, and optimization to apply to system requirements definitionCoach, train, mentor, and provide technical direction and guidance to team membersActively pursue cost reduction, performance, and efficiency improvement advanced projects in the inverter and PE integration spaceResearch state-of-the-art and trends in inverters and PE integration across industry and academiaProvide technical expertise, direction, and guidance to program and systems teamsTeach inverter and PE principles, and communicate and share knowledge across the organizationEstablish and maintain relationships with key university labs, national laboratories, and experts from key professional organizations (i.e., IEEE, SAE)Qualifications:Master of Science or PhD in Engineering or related field5 or more years of experience in automotive power electronicsExtensive knowledge in inverter and PE theory and principlesExtensive knowledge in design, development, and testing of inverters and PE systemsExperience in analysis, design, development, and specification of PE for EV applicationExperience in implementing PE solutions in productionUnderstanding of electrified vehicle system and integrationHigh level of technical problem-solving skills and experience to address vehicle level issuesFluency in using commercial tools for modeling and simulation of PE systemsHands-on experience with PE testing and working in HV laboratory environmentExperience leading projects with multiple suppliers to deliver best-in-class productsDemonstrated experience of successfully leading multiple advanced technology projectsPE component specification development for automotive applicationsHigh level of project management skills and the ability to influence those that are not direct reportsHigh level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with domestic and international business partnersAbility to work non-standard hours to collaborate with overseas suppliersAvailable to travel to support supplier engagement and conferencesStrong analytical ability to dissect and propose solutions to complex problems including those with high ambiguityHigh level of oral and written communication skills. Ability to create and present information to leadership, peers, and customers in a clear and concise mannerAble to work with minimum supervision and full autonomyDFSS Black Belt certificationPreferred Qualifications:PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field with focus on PEExperience with wide-band gap semiconductor device-based PE systemsRecognized technical expertise through patents, publications, and presentations in PE systemsComprehensive knowledge of inverter / PE design, key component selection, and design verificationHands-on experience of vehicle and component level benchmarking of competitive inverters / PE systemsThis role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}.This job is not eligible for relocation benefits.
