Job description

The Circuit Library of the D.C. Circuit is comprised of one headquarters library located in Washington, D.C.

Duties

The Technical Services Librarian provides technical, operational, and customer service support in the functions of archival work and civics education outreach. Additional responsibilities include legal resources procurement, information discovery, creation of digital repositories, evaluation and implementation of emerging technology products, and development of both traditional and innovative interactive user services. The goal is to maintain a well-organized and accessible court library system in the circuit. The Circuit Library serves judges, law clerks, and court units in the U.S. Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Court, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Columbia. This is a full-time, permanent position.

Requirements

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or eligible to work in the U.S. Employees of the federal courts are excepted service appointments, which are "At-Will" and may be terminated with or without cause. All applicant information is subject to verification. The selected candidate will be hired provisionally pending background check results. Direct deposit of pay is required. Qualifications

  • CL-27: MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited library school, 1-2 years of successful library experience, and at least one year of research experience.
  • CL-28: MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited library school, 2-5 years of progressively responsible law library experience focused on archival work, including at least one year equivalent to CL-27 level.
  • Understanding of library operations and ILS systems, especially SirsiDynix or similar systems.
  • Knowledge of library technical services related to archival systems.
  • Knowledge of procurement principles and legal research resources.
  • Familiarity with discovery products and digital tools relevant to law libraries.
  • Strong analytical, communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Effective training skills for virtual and in-person programs.
  • Experience with web design and electronic publishing.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
