Job summary

Jobtailor in Maryland seeks a capable Scrum Master/Software Engineer to lead sprint activities and facilitate all ceremonies. You will drive continuous improvement using metrics, remove impediments, and report risks to leadership.

The role involves designing and debugging applications across the full SDLC and mentoring junior teammates. The ideal candidate brings strong Java and front-end skills (React/HTML/CSS/JS), plus deep experience with Spring, REST, and testing frameworks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field with 4-8 years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree with 2-6 years of prior experience
• Significant knowledge of Java with substantial hands-on programming experience
• Significant experience with Web development and commonly used front-end tools and languages (React, HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
• Significant experience with unit testing tools such as JUnit and Mockito
• Experience with RESTful API, JSON, XML, XSD
• Experience with Spring Framework, Spring Security, and Spring Boot
• Experience with Linux
• Experience with version control systems such as Git or Subversion
• Experience with common development tools and IDEs (Eclipse, VS Code, etc.)
• Experience working as a Scrum Master within the Agile Scrum framework
• Understanding of sound software development principles and practices
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
• Ability to obtain SF-85 Public Trust (Tier 2) suitability determination
• US citizenship required

• Actively remove impediments by resolving blocking issues related to feature development, build and dependency challenges, operational support conflicts, and process.
• Provide timely status, risk, and dependency reporting to the Release Train Engineer and management, including sprint execution, team availability, and issues impacting delivery.
• Design, develop, document, configure, test, and debug applications and frameworks across the full software development life cycle, serving as a key contributor to system enhancements and new features.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, refactoring, debugging, and test creation.
• Assist with deployment, diagnosis, and resolution of critical issues in lab and operational systems as required.
• Collaborate with and mentor junior team members to meet sprint commitments and project milestones.
• Communicate effectively with cross-functional internal teams, stakeholders, and, when necessary, external partners to ensure alignment and successful delivery.
