Job description

Manufacturing Engineering | Mechanical Engineering | Metallurgy Taunton, MA | Full-time, on-site

D.W. Clark casts engineered components for critical infrastructure and defense. Our mission is to advance how castings are made and the systems they make possible: the submarines that defend the nation, the infrastructure that runs everyday life, and the technologies changing how the world moves. We are building the most capable, technology-forward casting operation, as part of proving American manufacturing can lead again. We pour centrifugal and static castings with both fixed and 3D printed tooling in steels, stainless, nickel, cobalt, and specialty alloys, supported by in-house built tailored operating software.

We are adding a Technical Sales Engineer to a growing technical sales team. This role is the link between our customers and our manufacturing capability, and it owns accounts end-to-end: evaluate the project, determine the manufacturing methods, estimate and quote it, and then remain the customer's point of contact as their orders move through operations. The right candidate has a strong engineering foundation, reads and interprets drawings fluently, models in CAD, understands casting and machining, and is motivated by producing high-quality, efficient work at a fast pace.

A note on pace, stated up front: this is a demanding role at a growing company solving defense and infrastructure supply chain challenges. Our engineering team routinely works beyond a standard week to hit customer commitments. We would rather be direct about that now than surprise anyone after they start. In return, you get consequential work, modern tools, and a company investing in its people and its future.

Key Responsibilities

Technical quoting and analysis

  • Review and analyze customer RFQs, drawings, specifications, and 3D models to assess manufacturability and technical requirements

  • Collaborate with customers to clarify technical details, and with internal teams to determine the optimal manufacturing method for each component

Cost estimation and outside processing

  • Configure materials, operations, tooling, outside costs, and services in our estimation software; validate assumptions with production, purchasing, and quality

  • Obtain supplier quotations for outside operations (non-destructive testing, heat treating, surface finishing, specialized machining) to support estimates, meeting quality and lead-time requirements; purchasing owns the resulting supplier orders

Proposals and customer engagement

  • Prepare clear, professional technical and commercial proposals; articulate the value of D.W. Clark's manufacturing solutions

  • Participate in customer meetings, presentations, and technical discussions

Account management and status communication

  • Own a portfolio of assigned accounts as their primary commercial and technical contact

  • Provide customers with regular, accurate project and order status updates, driven from our ERP reporting

  • Coordinate across production, quality, and shipping to resolve customer issues quickly, and keep commitments visible

  • Grow assigned accounts through repeat orders and new part numbers; maintain quoting records and customer feedback to improve our cost models

Qualifications

  • Experience in castings, foundry, metallurgy, machining, aerospace, defense or metals manufacturing

  • Proficiency reading and interpreting 2D prints, quality requirements, specifications, and customer documentation

  • Experience with common CAD packages; ability to model accurately and efficiently

  • Strong attention to detail and a habit of checking the work; highly organized

  • Able to diagnose, problem-solve, and make forward progress in ambiguous situations

  • Strong communication across all levels, and highly responsive

  • Knowledge of quality control systems

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Metallurgy, or Materials Science preferred

  • This position requires access to information that, under U.S. Government and customer contract requirements, may be accessed only by U.S. citizens. U.S. citizenship is therefore required.

What We Offer

Salary range: $85,000 to $105,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits include paid holidays, vacation, 401(k) with 5% company match, performance incentive plan, health care, and dental. D.W. Clark offers a great work environment and real opportunities for growth in a company investing heavily in new facilities, equipment, and technology. We are committed to providing a work environment our team members can excel in and are proud to be a part of.
