Job summary

A leading engineering firm in Houston is seeking an experienced safety engineer with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Chemical Engineering, and at least 10 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. Responsibilities include managing safety studies, reviewing reports from third-party consultants, and coordinating technical safety issues. Responsibilities

  • Act as focal points between third-party consultants and topside engineering contractors.
  • Ensure assigned scopes of work are technically feasible and delivered within project schedules.
  • Prepare TBEs based on safety study proposals from third-party consultants.
  • Review reports issued by third-party consultants.
  • Manage interface issues and coordinate with topside contractors on safety engineering matters.
  • Support Project Management Teams in CTR and schedule development.

Job description

  • Act as focal points between third-party consultants, companies, and topside engineering contractors (if any).
  • Ensure assigned scopes of work are technically feasible and delivered within project schedules.
  • Prepare TBEs (Technical Bid Evaluations) based on safety study proposals from third-party consultants.
  • Review reports issued by third-party consultants.
  • Ensure inter-discipline coordination for input collection to support relevant safety studies.
  • Manage interface issues and coordinate with topside contractors (if any) on technical safety engineering matters.
  • Identify, review, provide feedback, and follow up on safety study recommendations with relevant parties for design considerations.
  • Support Project Management Teams in CTR (Cost, Time, Resource), MDR (Master Deliverables Register), and schedule development and updates.
  • Develop design safety philosophies.
  • Review active and passive fire protection philosophies and specifications.
  • Coach junior engineers and provide necessary guidance.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by Project Managers (project-specific).
  • Participate in IDC (Inter-Discipline Checks) of documents within EDMS (Electronic Document Management Systems).
  • Notify Engineering Managers and Regulatory Compliance Managers when additional resources are required, ensuring vessel design and build meet technical safety requirements without schedule impact.
  • Notify relevant Section Leads if any third-party study recommendations could lead to unaccounted cost impacts outside original scope.
  • Review TBEs submitted by third-party safety studies and prepare briefs.
  • Manage and monitor the issuance and progress of safety studies.
  • Share project-specific fundamental Technical Safety training with compliance teams.
  • Support Regulatory Managers in the preparation and execution of audits.
