Job summary

AUSTIN POWDER COMPANY is seeking a qualified Blasting Technical Specialist to provide advanced technical assistance to blasting teams and customers. Responsibilities include conducting risk assessments, maintaining safety standards, and leveraging advanced data collection techniques.

Job description

Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Provide advanced technical assistance to blasting teams and customers to include mine planning, blast modelling and design, surveying and mapping, post‑blast analysis, blast optimization, and other blasting service needs.
  • Establish collaborative and respectful relationships with LLC/Regional blaster and technical team members, ensuring clear communication and alignment on blasting goals.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by uniformly implementing regulatory agency requirements, company policies, and procedures.
  • Be present at customer sites on short notice throughout the LLC/Region, as required by customers and the discretion of management.
  • Leverage understanding of blasting processes to provide blast plans customized to the unique needs of each blast and customer.
  • Clearly communicate recommended and required processes, techniques, and tools to blasting teams to facilitate safe execution of blast plans.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify safety and regulatory concerns and implement preventative measures to mitigate risk.
  • Participate in investigations of accidents, blasting incidents, and product complaints to determine root cause and recommend corrective actions.
  • Be a licensed drone pilot (FAA UAV Part 701) and ensure required team members earn and maintain drone certification.
  • Execute advanced technical data collection and processing to support blasting and technical services needs in the field.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and apply new technologies, processes, and techniques to support the evolving technical needs of blasting teams and customers.
  • Assist in the training, development, and certification of LLC/Region blasting and technical team members at the direction of management.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends, applications, product development, and technical advancements.
  • Interface professionally with the public, landowners, and interest groups concerning blasting‑related regulations, industry standards, or policies.
  • Perform as a Certified Blaster on a temporary sprint capacity.
  • Support sales teams as a subject‑matter expert on product application, capabilities, blasting, and technical services.
  • Respond urgently to incidents by being present on‑site at the discretion of management.
  • Support unique projects and assignments at the direction of management.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Execute advanced technical data collection and processing, including drone imagery, 3D modelling, high‑accuracy GPS data collection, bore tracking, 2D profiling, Paradigm blast modelling, and post‑blast fragmentation analysis.
  • Learn and apply advanced Paradigm modelling capabilities to meet the unique needs of LLC/Regional customers.
  • Understand and support blast design, execution, and analysis of blasting and technical services teams.
  • Present information in written and verbal formats to diverse audiences.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors, co‑workers, and subordinates toward common goals.
  • Know company products and equipment used in blasting applications, and continue learning.
  • Utilize effective written and verbal communication techniques via in‑person, digital, email, report writing, and presentations.
  • Manage a dynamic, often‑reactive work schedule with strong time‑management and prioritization skills.
  • Analyze complex problems, identify opportunities, and articulate recommendations.
  • Hold or earn an Austin Powder Company Blasting Certification within 12 months of acceptance.
Work Environment

This position requires working outdoors with exposure to dust, noise, oils, greases, and debris. Physical requirements include walking, standing, sitting, using hands to operate controls and tools, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling as needed. Travel may be up to 50%–70% within the LLC/Region.
