Technical Project Manager – Claims System Modernization

Employment: Full-Time

Setup: We are seeking an experienced Technical Project Manager (TPM) to lead our Claims System Modernization initiative. The TPM will drive end-to-end project execution, working closely with business stakeholders, architects, developers, QA teams, and external vendors to deliver a modern, efficient, secure, and scalable claims processing platform. The ideal candidate has deep project management expertise, strong technical understanding, and a background in insurance, claims operations, or enterprise system modernization.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the full lifecycle of the claims modernization project—from planning and requirements gathering to development, testing, deployment, and post-launch support.

Develop and maintain project plans, timelines, milestones, and deliverables using Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid methodologies.

Ensure clear scope definition, manage changes, and maintain alignment with business goals.

Track progress, manage risks and issues, and escalate roadblocks proactively.

Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Coordination.

Collaborate closely with claims operations, underwriting, IT, compliance, and finance teams to ensure project alignment.

Facilitate communication across technical and non-technical groups, ensuring transparency and shared understanding.

Run regular stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, steering committee updates, and status meetings.

Technical Management

Work with solution architects and engineering leads to understand system integrations, technical dependencies, data migration needs, and infrastructure requirements.

Coordinate with developers and QA teams to ensure high-quality system components and on-time delivery.

Support the design and implementation of APIs, workflow enhancements, rules engines, automated claims processing tools, and other modernization components.

Ensure proper documentation, configuration management, and version control practices.

Engage with third-party vendors involved in system components, claims platforms, or cloud services.

Manage vendor deliverables, SLAs, timelines, and performance.

Ensure smooth integration between internal systems and vendor technologies.

Data, Testing & Quality Assurance.

Support data mapping, data migration, and data validation efforts from legacy systems to the new claims platform.

Develop and oversee test plans (functional, UAT, integration, regression, performance).

Ensure compliance with industry regulations (HIPAA, SOC, PCI, insurance-specific rules).

Change Management & Deployment.

Coordinate training, communication, and process updates for claims teams.

Manage rollout strategies, including phased deployments, pilot testing, and post-deployment support.

Ensure the new system is adopted smoothly and meets operational expectations.

Requirements

5+ years of experience as a Technical Project Manager, IT Project Manager, or similar role.

Background in claims systems, insurance platforms, financial services, or enterprise modernization projects.

Strong understanding of system integrations, APIs, databases, cloud technologies, and application architecture.

Experience with Agile/Scrum and traditional project management methodologies.

Excellent communication, documentation, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

Proven ability to manage large, multi-phase technology projects with many stakeholders.

Experience with claims processing systems.

Familiarity with data migration tools and best practices for modernizing legacy systems.

PMP, PMI-ACP, Scrum Master, or similar certifications.

Experience working with offshore/onshore development teams.
