Sr. Project Manager - OpEx (IT & Platform Operations)
The Sr. Project Manager - OpEx is responsible for leading the delivery of Operational Expenditure (OpEx) and IT initiatives that keep technology platforms stable, scalable, secure, and cost-efficient; including infrastructure, applications, internal systems, and telecommunications platforms (voice, messaging, and carrier integrations).
This role is distinct from product-focused delivery: rather than building net-new capital-funded products or features, this Sr. Project Manager leads the projects that keep existing technology running well: system upgrades and migrations, technical debt reduction, incident-driven remediation, performance and reliability improvements, and cost/vendor optimization across the technology stack.
This role manages resources, schedules, and financials, and adheres to phase-gate quality and SDLC control guidelines throughout the full project delivery life cycle, including management of issues, risks, and project change requests to ensure successful delivery. We are looking for someone who wants to join a fast-paced, growing company, is comfortable with change, and can adjust priorities at a moment's notice. Under the direction of the PMO, this important role will support executive sponsors, business owners, and product managers in delivering products, solutions, and services that help achieve our key organizational goals and objectives.
Responsibilities
- Lead delivery of OpEx and IT initiatives that support core platform stability, scalability, and operational efficiency across our Client's technology environment.
- Drive projects across infrastructure, applications, and internal systems, ensuring alignment with business and technology roadmaps.
- Manage initiatives related to telecommunications platforms, including voice, messaging, and carrier integrations.
- Partner with Engineering, IT, and Operations teams to improve system performance, reliability, and cost optimization.
- Oversee system upgrades, migrations, and technical debt reduction efforts across the technology stack.
- Coordinate incident-driven and operational improvement projects, ensuring root cause resolution and long-term fixes rather than short-term patches.
- Ensure alignment with security, compliance, and data governance standards across all IT initiatives.
- Manage a portfolio of complex OpEx/IT initiatives that span infrastructure, platform, and multiple lines of business.
- Own project schedules, resources, financials, and status reporting for OpEx-funded initiatives, communicating milestones, dependencies, risks, and issues across multiple levels of leadership.
- Partner with department leads and SMEs to identify change impacts and lead operational readiness efforts, ensuring successful implementation and adoption of platform and system changes.
- Provide leadership for project teams by building and motivating team members to meet project goals and milestones.
- Participate in establishing PMO methodology, templates, policies, and tools to mature project delivery capabilities for OpEx and IT initiatives.
Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related business degree and/or equivalent experience.
Required Skills
- Experience leading IT and platform-focused projects (infrastructure, enterprise systems, or backend services).
- Working knowledge of telecommunications technologies (e.g., VoIP, SIP, carrier integrations, messaging platforms).
- Familiarity with cloud environments and modern architectures (e.g., AWS/Azure, APIs, microservices).
- Understanding of system reliability, performance monitoring, and incident management processes.
- Exposure to DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and release management.
- Experience with cost optimization and vendor management in IT/telecom environments.
- Experience managing cross-functional technical teams, including Engineering, IT, and external vendors.
- Ability to translate technical concepts into business impact and actionable delivery plans.
- Experience in telecom or communications platforms (contact centres, captioning, voice services, etc.).
- Minimum 10 years of experience in project management and/or delivery roles, with an emphasis on technology, application development, and product delivery.
- Excellent facilitation and elicitation skills, with the ability to lead discussions and build consensus across cross-functional teams, including business partners and technical resources.

- Telecommunications industry & compliance experience.

- Agile Training / Certification.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Self-starter with strong organizational and time management skills, self-directed and able to handle multiple priorities with demanding timeframes.

- Demonstrated ability to use discretion, make sound decisions, and maintain confidentiality.
