Job summary

Genus PLC is seeking a Technical Program Specialist to support the FIRE Feeder program and related genetic testing initiatives at Apex Site 2 in Mound City, SD. The role emphasizes data accuracy, biosecurity, and collaboration with production, product development, and supply chain teams.

You will train and guide team members, ensure SOP compliance, and help implement new technologies and processes while maintaining documentation and supporting animal welfare standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years in swine production systems, animal research, or related environment.
  • Mechanically inclined with problem solving skills.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting production or research data to support decisions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software.
  • Excellent communication and ability to work independently and across teams.
  • Travel up to 15% based on supply chain needs; passport or travel documents required for international travel.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure reliable operation and data collection from FIRE feeder systems and submit maintenance logs.
  • Coordinate with Osbourne to support feeder function and accelerate repairs.
  • Ensure animals have working transponders at all times and maintain data quality.
  • Download, validate, and submit FIRE feeder data and reports to leadership.
  • Support data integrity and contribute to genetic improvement objectives.
  • Assist in placing/removing animals from tests and conduct evaluations per SOPs.
  • Monitor test progress and communicate risks to leadership promptly.
  • Provide training and technical guidance to team members.
  • Implement new technologies and process improvements as needed.
  • Maintain accurate project records and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Role Overview

PIC, a Genus PLC company, has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for a Technical Program Specialist. This role is responsible for supporting the execution, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the FIRE Feeder program and associated genetic testing initiatives. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of data collection, supports animal testing and movement processes, maintains FIRE feeder systems, and collaborates with production, product development, and supply chain teams to achieve project objectives. The position serves as a technical resource, providing training, guidance, and support to team members while ensuring adherence to company protocols, biosecurity standards, and operational procedures. The position is based at Apex Site 2 located in Mound City, South Dakota.

You Will
  • Ensure reliable operation and data collection from the FIRE feeder systems by submitting accurate repair and maintenance logs.
  • Seek assistance from Osbourne when necessary to support proper feeder function and increase efficiency of problem identification and speedy repairs.
  • Support robust data by making sure all animals have a working transponder at all times.
  • Download, validate, and submit FIRE feeder data and reports to the GN leadership team.
  • Support monitoring programs that ensure data collection integrity and contribute to genetic improvement objectives.
  • Assist with placing animals on test, removing animals from test, and conducting evaluations according to established protocols.
  • Monitor test progress and communicate risks, challenges, or missed targets to leadership in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), biosecurity requirements, and animal welfare standards.
  • Develop and deliver training, coaching, and technical support to team members as needed.
  • Assist with the implementation and adoption of new technologies and process improvements.
  • Maintain accurate project records and documentation.
  • Collaborate with production, product development, supply chain, and other cross-functional teams to support project goals.
  • Present project updates, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Provide technical guidance and informal leadership to colleagues and team members.
  • Support facility operations by assisting other departments as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience within swine production systems, animal research, agricultural technology, or a related environment.
  • Mechanically inclined with problem solving skills
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting production or research data to support operational decisions and project outcomes.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications, with the ability to learn new technologies and systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently, collaborate across teams
  • Travel a maximum of 15%, based on supply chain needs
  • Ability to attain a passport or other travel documents to travel internationally.
