Job description

The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. That means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It's why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It's why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it's why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it's worth paying for.

The Publishing group at The New York Times builds and maintains the content management system powering all Times platforms. We empower engineering teams to evolve digital experiences while providing creators with interconnected tools to uphold our journalistic mission.

The Content Data Products team governs the centralized, compliance-cleared platform for all Times content data. Partnering closely with the New AI Products and Platforms (NAPP) team-whose Discovery Engine (search, knowledge graph, and AI) relies on our infrastructure-we ensure our rich archive is ingested, structured, attributed, and indexed across all brands (News, Cooking, Wirecutter, The Athletic, Games) and multimedia formats (articles, video, interactives).

We are looking for a Technical Product Manager II to lead our content data warehouse roadmap and its feeding pipelines. Reporting to the Senior TPM for NAPP, you will partner with engineering to bring product strategy across editorial, AI, and partner requirements.

This is a hybrid role based in our New York City headquarters. You can typically expect to come into the office 3 days/week.

Responsibilities:
  • Roadmap Execution: Lead the strategy and delivery for the content data warehouse and ingestion pipelines for new content types and metadata enrichment.
  • Data Modeling & Indexing: Define specifications for modeling, ingesting, and indexing new content formats (e.g., video, interactives, acquired brand content) for search, retrieval, and AI use cases.
  • Catalog Optimization: Partner with operations, legal, and teams to audit archival structures, address metadata gaps, and improve catalog completeness.
  • Collaboration: Gather requirements, establish data contracts, prioritize features, and communicate roadmap progress and risks across engineering, design, editorial, and leadership.
  • Product Delivery: Guide the end-to-end product development lifecycle from concept to launch with high quality.
Basic Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of experience in technical product management with a focus on content data and platform infrastructure.
  • 3+ years of experience launching complex software products in close partnership with engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated experience with unstructured or multimedia data ingestion pipelines and downstream integrations (e.g., search indexes, analytics, ML/AI systems).
  • Experience navigating ambiguous spaces, conduct research, define technical requirements, and experience communicating complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences to diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Science, Journalism, or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with search/retrieval systems and how structured metadata powers search engines and AI capabilities.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, relational database architecture, and schema auditing.
