Job description

Have you ever lived or worked in a rental community? Did you observe the variety of hardware and software solutions needed to operate the building, and perhaps dream-up improvements when the technology didn't work correctly? If the prospect of working on complex systems that improve the efficiency and profitability of billion-dollar real estate portfolios excites you, and if you have a passion for improving the lives of millions of residents using your technology every day, PointCentral wants to talk!

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design, build, and ship production code as an active contributor to the Enabling Technologies engineering team, partnering with fellow engineers to increase the team's overall shipping velocity
  • Build and ship prototypes and proofs-of-concept to quickly validate new integration approaches and de-risk product decisions before committing engineering resources
  • Demonstrate proficiency in leveraging AI tools to accelerate both engineering delivery and product research
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Engineering
  • Design, build, and ship production code as an active contributor to the Enabling Technologies engineering team, partnering with fellow engineers to increase the team's overall shipping velocity
  • Build and ship prototypes and proofs-of-concept to quickly validate new integration approaches and de-risk product decisions before committing engineering resources
  • Demonstrate proficiency in leveraging AI tools to accelerate both engineering delivery and product research
  • Technical Product Research & Specification
  • Partner with Product Leadership to turn high-level product vision into actionable technical opportunities, with a near-term focus on expanding the range of third-party access control devices we support
  • Conduct technical market research into access control hardware, protocols, and emerging standards (e.g., Wi-Fi, Z-Wave, BLE, Aliro), evaluating new device types and vendors for integration feasibility
  • Own early-stage technical discovery for new integrations - investigating protocol behavior, hardware constraints, and architectural tradeoffs - and translate findings into clear specs and requirements engineering can build against
  • Contribute to specs, technical documentation, and internal enablement materials that help the broader team understand new integrations
  • Cross-Functional Support
  • Support beta testing of new integrations and features
  • Provide light technical support to revenue and customer-facing teams as needed - occasional participation in customer interviews, technical qualification calls, or onsite visits - with the expectation that most direct customer and go-to-market engagement is owned by the Head of Product
  • Develop working knowledge of the rental real estate market and PointCentral's access control strategy to inform sound technical tradeoffs
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • 4-6 years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of shipping production code
  • Working knowledge of SQL for database operations and Object-Oriented Programming to read and navigate codebase
  • Experience evaluating, designing or integrating with RESTful APIs, webhooks and event-driven architectures preferred
  • Genuine comfort working with hardware, devices, and physical appliances, and interest in learning access control protocols and standards
  • Demonstrated curiosity about the \"why\" behind what you build - prior experience or strong interest in product thinking, technical research, or spec writing is a plus, though formal product management experience is not required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate ambiguous, high-level product direction into clear technical specifications
  • Comfortable with ambiguity
  • Willingness to occasionally support customer-facing activities (calls, onsite visits) as needed - this is not a prim
