Job description

Overview

Brightcore Energy provides end‑to‑end energy efficiency and clean energy solutions to commercial, industrial, and institutional clients, including lighting, controls, geothermal heating and cooling, solar, and battery storage.

Summary / Primary Role

Technical leader focused on large‑scale geothermal system operations and optimization, owning both the current product roadmap and the strategic direction of Brightcore EDGE, a platform that intelligently manages geothermal assets at scale.

Responsibilities
  • Become the internal authority on geothermal system behavior, failure modes, degradation, and optimization, and translate that knowledge into product requirements.
  • Define automated detection logic for system anomalies such as borefield degradation, heat pump faults, performance drift, and thermal imbalances, grounded in thermodynamic principles.
  • Design metrics, KPIs, and alert frameworks that enable EDGE to identify issues without human intervention.
  • Actively use the platform as an expert operator to identify gaps, amplify strengths, and shape next‑level intelligence.
  • Build a continuous feedback loop from field data and customer conversations into product insight and specification.
  • Partner with leadership to shape the future EDGE roadmap, identifying new system types, customer segments, and performance guarantee models.
  • Synthesize inputs from the field, engineering, and market signals into a coherent product direction.
  • Develop deep fluency with customer needs; understand how facilities managers think and what resonates with mechanical engineers and controls contractors.
  • Author precise, developer‑ready feature specifications: user stories, acceptance criteria, edge cases, data contracts, thermodynamic constraints.
  • Translate complex domain knowledge such as control logic, sensor data quality, time‑series anomalies, and thermal system behavior into unambiguous engineering requirements.
  • Own the sprint cycle: stand‑ups, backlog grooming, prioritization, and delivery accountability for a small, high‑output engineering team.
  • Unblock engineers quickly and protect their focus by making every requirement decision ahead of them.
  • Own data quality standards across cloud SaaS and on‑prem edge deployments and identify and resolve time‑series data challenges endemic to building systems.
  • Define data pipeline requirements, validation logic, and monitoring dashboards in collaboration with engineering.
  • Perform any additional duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Controls Systems, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated thermodynamic fluency and systems depth.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in product management, systems engineering, application engineering, or a technical role requiring deep engineering expertise and customer‑facing product responsibility.
  • Experience with HVAC, heat pump, geothermal, hydronic, or building controls systems.
  • Comfort reasoning through thermodynamic equations and system performance metrics (COP, EER, approach temperatures, heat transfer rates, etc.).
  • Experience with IoT systems, sensor data, or building automation and control systems (BAS/BMS).
  • Strong working knowledge of time‑series data: structure, common failure modes, and anomaly detection approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to write precise, developer‑ready feature specifications.
  • Experience running agile delivery for small engineering teams.
Supervisory Responsibility
  • This position may have supervisory responsibility.
Hours of Work & Compensation

Minimum 40 hours per week. Overtime may apply for non‑exempt employees in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws. Exempt employees may work additional hours as required. Base annual salary range: $140,000–$160,000, with eligibility for an annual performance‑based bonus.

Travel Requirements
  • Office presence required at least three days per week unless otherwise approved by direct supervisor.
  • Office setting.
Physical Demands
  • This is not a safety‑sensitive position.
Drug & Alcohol‑Free Workplace
  • Brightcore Energy is committed to a safe workplace free of drugs and alcohol.
  • All positions require a pre‑employment background check, including prior employment verification, criminal history check, and drug screen.
  • DOT regulations apply for safety‑sensitive duties; written consent is required for prior drug and alcohol testing records.
Office / Remote / Field Work

Structured work arrangements—including remote, hybrid, and field‑based assignments—are role‑dependent and subject to change at Brightcore’s discretion.

Benefits
  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits; FSA and HSA options.
  • 401(k) plan with up to 4% match.
  • PTO, financial wellness benefits, benefit concierge program, employee assistance program.
  • Disability, life, and AD&D benefits.
  • Access to marketplace for discounted goods and services.
