Job summary

BMW Manufacturing Company is seeking a student-focused engineer for an on-site, full-time role in Spartanburg, SC. You will plan and lead engineering changes for assembly, improve processes, and coordinate with various teams to ensure efficient production.

Requirements include a BS in Engineering, 2+ years in manufacturing or an automotive internship, and 3+ months BMW internship experience. You will apply statistical methods for process analysis and participate in continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering or equivalent
  • 2+ years in manufacturing or automotive internship
  • 1+ year in assembly and vehicle systems
  • 1+ year data analysis and problem investigation
  • 1+ year project management and crossfunctional communication
  • Must be enrolled at a university outside the United States
  • Must have completed a BMW internship of at least 3 months
  • Ability to work full-time on-site (40 hours/week)

Responsibilities

  • Plans and leads engineering changes and deviations for assembly.
  • Develops and improves assembly processes and methods using product design, materials, tooling and equipment knowledge.
  • Creates and maintains assembly process sheets.
  • Analyzes space requirements and workflow; designs equipment layout for efficiency.
  • Coordinates with finance/procurement/design/vendors for production methods and equipment purchases.
  • Evaluates product against specifications and quality standards.
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements and related costs.
  • Communicates with management/engineering to facilitate production processes.
  • Applies statistical methods to estimate future assembly needs.
  • Leads special projects for continuous improvement and new model planning.
  • Provides technical guidance and training; supports process areas in issues.
  • Understands VPS, Standard Work, 5S and Safety standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Plans and leads engineering changes and deviations for assembly.
  • Develops, evaluates and improves assembly process and process methods utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication process, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods and quality control standards.
  • Creates and maintains assembly process sheets.
  • Analyzes and plans space requirements and workflow and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Confers with finance, procurement, design staff and vendors concerning product design, process tools, fixtures and equipment to ensure efficient production methods and to arrange for purchase of equipment, materials or parts.
  • Evaluates product according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Confers with management, engineering and other staff regarding assembly capabilities, production schedules and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
  • Applies statistical methods to estimate future assembly requirements and potential.
  • Leads any special projects and/or self-initiated projects for continuous improvement, structural planning and/or other series and new model related planning projects.
  • Provides specialized technical guidance, training, process improvement activities and support to assigned process area and production associates. Assists with analysis on process and quality issues not solvable by production areas.
  • Understands and models VPS (Value Added Production System) Principles and concepts of Standard Work and Problem Solving. Adheres to 5S and Safety Standards and Principles.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
  • BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering preferred), or the equivalent of 4 years related engineering experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment or participation in an automotive internship (automotive process or automotive manufacturing engineering preferred).
  • 1+ years experience in assembly and functionality of vehicle systems (electrical, mechanical, modular, & diagnostic preferred).
  • 1+ years problem investigation & data analysis experience.
  • 1+ years long and short-term project management experience (structure projects, continuous improvement, process analysis, new model).
  • 1+ years crossfunctional communication experience.
  • 1+ years experience using Microsoft office applications.
  • 1+ year knowledge of TS-4 (Assembly) department goals and objectives.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to use and apply statistical methods to aid with process analysis (risk filters, FMEAs, SPC, process/machine capability.
  • Ability to use quality planning tools. Basic skills in BMW applications/systems (PCSQ, DZA, SAP, TAIS, IPA).
  • Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on the US grading scale
  • Must be enrolled at a university outside of the United States.
  • Must have completed a prior BMW internship of at least 3 months in length.
  • Ability to work full-time on-site (40 hours / week).
  • Complete and pass a substance abuse test before the work term.
