DESCRIPTION

Shakespeare Theatre Company seeks an experienced Scenic Carpenter to join our Helen Hayes award-winning scene shop. The professional scenic carpentry staff handles carpentry, metalwork, rigging, mechanics, and automation for STC’s artistically ambitious productions built in a well-appointed 23,000 SF scene shop. Projects can range from building flats to tearing apart a car to traditional indoor sets, and everything in between. This person will work day-to-day with other departments and will participate in the build, load-in, and strike of all shows. This is a full-time position with excellent benefits and a current hourly rate of $26.14, increasing to $26.92 per hour on August 1, 2025.

This position requires an associate’s degree in Technical Theatre or equivalent experience, and at least 3 years’ professional experience in a shop environment. Preference will be given to candidates with MIG welding experience and automation knowledge. Must be able to regularly lift at least 50 lbs. We work 10-hour days Monday-Thursday, with occasional weekends and evenings. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between STC and IATSE Local 22.
