Job Purpose

The Properties Carpenter, with the Properties Supervisor/Associate Supervisor, is responsible for fabricating and modifying all properties, focusing on carpentry and metal work, to convey the Designers’ vision for all productions. The role involves communicating and coordinating with shop artisans and department heads for efficient integration of prop elements and set dressing. The Properties Carpenter collaborates with staff, supervises over hire in props construction, and assists with purchasing supplies and maintaining equipment and props. All employees are expected to uphold the DCPA’s core values of artistic excellence, community, equity, diversity and inclusion, and fiscal responsibility.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • The Props Carpenter fabricates and modifies properties for all productions within each season, understanding working drawings/elevations, construction methods, carpentry, metal fabrication, hand tools, power tools, pneumatics, electrical, adhesives, foams, and mixed media fabrication.
  • Communicates effectively with designers and the Properties Supervisor/Associate Supervisor about show concepts.
  • Works collaboratively with a diverse range of people, including designers, artisans, and staff.
  • Proofs all working design drawings.
  • Acquires materials and goods needed for props construction.
  • Uses appropriate Personal Protective Equipment on all projects.
  • Assesses costs and adheres to budgets for each production.
  • Works productively under time pressures, meeting deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
  • Services and maintains prop shop equipment and inventory.
  • Maintains a safe, healthy, and clean shop environment.
  • Maintains SDS sheets for all purchased products and assists with prop shop management.
  • Performs other related work as required.
SALARY

$25.00 – $26.50 per hour
