About TDF Costume Collection Rental Program

The TDF Costume Collection is a program of Theatre Development Fund, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to making the performing arts accessible to everyone. Our mission is to eliminate barriers to the performing arts, fostering a sense of ownership and belonging among all audiences in NYC. Celebrating 50 years, we offer costume rentals to various entertainment and educational institutions nationwide, housing over 100,000 costumes and accessories at our facility in Queens, NY.

About the Position

The Warehouse Assistant reports to the Rental Managers and assists with warehouse upkeep, including processing dry cleaning, restocking, and general maintenance of our two warehouse spaces. Responsibilities include:

  • Checking costumes in and out, restocking, and maintaining the warehouse
  • Communicating effectively with customers, requiring a good knowledge of rental stock
  • Performing physical tasks such as lifting costumes, moving boxes, using ladders, and standing for long periods
  • Supporting Rental Managers with special projects
  • Assisting Staff Designer with mail order rentals
Front Desk Assistance (during lunch hours):
  • Answering calls and emails
  • Greeting visitors
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Managing shipments
  • Handling rental paperwork and payments
About You
  • You are passionate about the arts.
  • You possess strong customer service skills, including active listening, communication, positivity, assertiveness, and humor.
  • You are proactive, self-motivated, and detail-oriented.
  • You are comfortable with math, heights, physical labor, and dusty environments.
  • You have a degree in Costume Design or equivalent experience, with basic knowledge of costume history.
  • You can work independently and in teams, are tech-savvy, and can multitask.
  • All staff must be fully vaccinated and boosted, with proof provided.
Compensation and Benefits

Hourly rate is $20, paid weekly. Work hours are between 20-25 hours per week, depending on availability.
