Job description

IPX Power, LLC, Houston, TX seeks IPX Power, a clean energy company, develops, owns, and operates some of the world’s largest energy resources, delivering affordable, reliable power to utilities and other customers. We are in a rapid growth phase with 4.3 GW of solar PV and 8.8 GWh of battery storage in construction or operation, with more projects under various stages of development.

IPX is a profitable, well capitalized, independent power producer that has delivered billions of dollars of industrial-scale clean energy infrastructure. The company was recently formed as a spin-out of Intersect, because of their recent acquisition by Google. IPX is supported by long-standing existing investors TPG Rise Climate, Climate Adaptive Infrastructure, and Greenbelt Capital Partners.

IPX is rooted in a culture of collaboration, creativity, and operational excellence. We are building and operating billions of dollars in assets and seeking people eager to develop, build, and operate one of the world’s largest renewables and storage portfolios.

About this Position

Provide leadership and direction to the Technical Operations team and lead complex engineering projects in the renewable energy sector, with cross-functional coordination across engineering, operations, and asset management teams. This individual will develop and implement strategies to monitor, analyze, and optimize the performance of clean energy systems, including utility-scale solar and battery energy storage facilities, leveraging data analytics and automation.

In this position you will lead photovoltaic (PV) energy yield assessment, production simulation, and loss modeling using PVsyst and PlantPredict tools to support performance benchmarking, underperformance investigations, and repowering business cases. You’ll be expected to establish KPIs and develop monitoring and reporting systems using Python-based time-series analysis, performance benchmarking, and automated evaluation of utility-scale solar and BESS operational data.

Oversee SCADA, DAS, and monitoring system integration activities, including point mapping, site onboarding, alarm and event validation, data quality assurance, and operational acceptance testing. Diagnose, quantify, and resolve complex performance losses in utility-scale solar assets, including inverter, tracker, communications, soiling, and balance-of-system related issues, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum operational efficiency.

Direct repowering and retrofit initiatives across operating solar power plants, including equipment replacement strategies, system upgrades, integration planning, and recommissioning support. Oversee photovoltaic (PV) module testing, characterization, and failure analysis programs, including electroluminescence (EL) imaging, flash testing, and interpretation of module defect and performance data to inform warranty claims and fleet-wide remediation. Provide technical oversight of operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of utility-scale solar power plant systems, including DC collection systems, medium-voltage (MV) AC systems, communications networks, and plant monitoring infrastructure. Lead grid and market operations activities for utility-scale renewable assets, including coordination with Independent System Operators (ISOs) such as CAISO and ERCOT, telemetry and compliance support, and outage coordination. Manage relationships with OEMs, EPCs, and third-party O&M providers to resolve warranty and systemic issues; drive deployment of automation technologies such as robotics and drones; mentor team members; ensure compliance with industry standards and ISO market rules; and report performance trends and strategic priorities to senior management.

Will travel 20% US to attend team meetings and site visits. May Telecommute.
