Job summary

Department of Public Health (DPH) in South Carolina seeks a laboratory electronics technician to operate, maintain, and calibrate precision instruments across electronic, electromechanical, and mechanical systems.

You will perform renovations, modify devices, monitor environmental conditions, and support safety programs with travel as needed, maintaining data logs for reliability and compliance.

Qualifications

• State minimum requirements: a high school diploma and experience or training in the specific work area.
• Read and understand electronic schematics and circuit diagrams.
• Ability to wear protective clothing.

Responsibilities

• Under general supervision operates, maintains, calibrates electronic, electromechanical, and mechanical laboratory instruments.
• Performs laboratory renovations as directed by the Logistics Section Director and Facilities Management Supervisor.
• Modify, create and construct various devices as directed by the Logistics Section Director and Facilities Management Supervisor.
• Monitor temperature and humidity levels throughout the laboratory and maintain a spreadsheet detailing the data.
• Performs monthly checks on safety equipment in the laboratory; calibrates thermometers used in laboratory equipment.
• Travel may be required; responds during emergencies outside normal hours.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications, subject to approval by the SCDPH Chief Human Resources Officer, or their delegate.

• Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned, including required travel if requested, and responds as directed during emergencies which may occur outside normal work hours, and travel required.

• An associates degree in electronics engineering technology or equivalent training and two years' experience in the repair, maintenance, and calibration of precision instrumentation.
• A good mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate all types of mechanicals, hand and power tools.
• Equivalent training must include formal school training in electronics theory.
• Be able to read and understand electronic schematics and circuit diagrams.
• Communicate effectively with the general public and staff members.
• Ability to wear protective clothing.
• A person with allergies to the material used in protective clothing or gloves cannot work in this position.
• Must possess a valid South Carolina drivers license.
