Job summary

State of South Carolina—Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking an electronics-focused technician to operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory instruments. The role includes renovating labs, constructing devices, and monitoring environmental conditions, with documented data and regular safety checks.

Occasional after-hours work and travel may be required. Qualifications include an Associate degree in electronics engineering technology or equivalent, plus two years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Under general supervision operates, maintains, calibrates electronic, electromechanical, and mechanical laboratory instruments.
• Performs laboratory renovations as directed by the Logistics Section Director and Facilities Management Supervisor.
• Modify, create and construct various devices as directed by the Logistics Section Director and Facilities Management Supervisor.
• Monitor temperature and humidity levels throughout the laboratory and maintain a spreadsheet detailing the data.
• Performs monthly checks on safety equipment in the laboratory. Maintain the Department of Administration work order call log. Calibrate thermometers used in laboratory equipment.
• Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned, including required travel if requested, and responds as directed during emergencies which may occur outside normal work hours, and travel required.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory instruments (electronic, electromechanical, and mechanical).
• Perform laboratory renovations as instructed by supervisors.

• Monitor environmental conditions and document data in spreadsheets.
• Carry out safety equipment checks and maintain maintenance logs.
• Calibrate thermometers and respond to emergencies including after-hours travel.
