Job summary

TechDigital Group in New York, NY seeks an experienced Technical Lead for backend services and APIs built with Express.js and Node.js. You will drive architecture, lead a development team, and shape integration strategies with headless eCommerce platforms such as CommerceTools.

You will coordinate with product, architecture, and DevOps to ensure secure, scalable cloud-native solutions on Azure, while guiding CI/CD practices and QA collaboration.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of full-stack/backend development experience, with 5+ years in Node.js/Express.js.
• 2+ years in Technical Lead or Team Lead roles.
• Experience with eCommerce platforms (CommerceTools or similar headless platforms).
• Deep understanding of RESTful APIs, event-driven architecture, and microservices.
• Experience building cloud-native applications on Azure.
• Proven ability to lead solution design and produce technical documentation.
• Familiarity with OAuth2 and secure API practices.
• Experience integrating third-party services (payment gateways, CMS, PIM, search engines).

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture and development of backend services and APIs using Express.js/Node.js with eCommerce integration.
• Provide technical leadership: mentoring, code reviews, and best-practice enforcement.
• Define architecture patterns, integration strategies, and API design for commerce services (catalog, cart, checkout, pricing, orders).
• Collaborate with product owners, architects, and DevOps to align tech with business goals.
• Ensure GDPR data privacy and security compliance.
• Guide team on CI/CD pipelines, code quality, and release management (Azure DevOps).
• Work with QA to ensure coverage for functional and non-functional requirements.
• Participate in sprint planning, backlog grooming, and daily stand-ups.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the architecture and development of backend services and APIs using Express.js and Node.js, with integration into eCommerce platform(like CommerceTools etc)

Required Skills & Experience:

• 8+ years of full-stack/backend development experience, with at least 5 years in Node.js/Express.js.
• 2+ years of experience as a Technical Lead or Team Lead.
• Experience working with eCommerce platform would be an advantage. (like CommerceTools or similar headless commerce platforms (e.g., Elastic Path, SAP Commerce Cloud, BigCommerce headless).
• Deep understanding of RESTful APIs, event-driven architecture, and microservices.
• Experience working with cloud-native applications, preferably on Azure (Azure Functions, Azure App Services, etc.).
• Proven ability to lead solution design sessions and produce high-quality technical documentation.
• Familiarity with OAuth2, and secure API practices.
