Job summary

Garmin Ltd. is seeking a Technical Lead Mechanical Engineer for the Fitness team at our U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. You will be a key technical contributor in major product development of mechanical solutions for new applications of known technology.

The role requires leading design reviews, exploring new technologies, and coordinating with factories and vendors to optimize cost and feasibility. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 9+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proven ability to lead design reviews and coordinate across teams.
  • Experience reviewing CAD assemblies for feasibility and risk.

  • Review CAD assemblies for feasibility and risky design aspects.
  • Explore new technologies; outline challenges and risks.
  • Develop/test methods using materials knowledge.
  • Interpret qualification tests and influence design.
  • Estimate tooling, part cost and design time.
  • Negotiate processes and materials with factories and vendors.
  • Contribute to design reviews and propose process improvements.
  • May lead major explorations or multi-module projects; travel as required.

Overview

We are seeking a full-timeTechnical Lead Mechanical Engineer on our Fitness team at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for serving as a key technical contributor in major product development or mechanical solutions for significant new applications of known technology within the Fitness product segment.

Essential Functions
  • Serves as a key contributor in the review of CAD assemblies for technical feasibility and applying experience to risky design aspects of product development
  • Explores new technologies, features and functions, understand and outline the associated challenges and risks
  • Utilizes advanced testing capabilities and knowledge of materials to customize existing or develop new test methods to substantiate unverified aspects of product designs
  • Interprets industry and Garmin product qualification tests and their relevance and impact on product design, sharing knowledge with mechanical design team members
  • Completes estimates on complex and risky mechanical designs including tooling, part cost and design time
  • Negotiates processes, materials and design feasibility with factory and vendors
  • Provides significant contribution to design reviews across multiple product types, offers process improvements, authors new procedures, and demonstrates broad understanding of Garmin’s business model including operations, production, sales and marketing
  • May lead major explorations or product development project consisting of multiple modules or sub-projects
  • Overseas travel as required
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical EngineeringANDa minimum of 9 years relevant experienceORanequivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
Desired Qualifications
  • Electronic packaging design experience
  • Interest in fitness activities
