Job summary

A technology services firm in Chicago seeks a Technical Lead Engineer specializing in Artificial Intelligence. The role requires strong leadership in software engineering with expertise in Python and systems architecture. Candidates should have experience with AI and LLMs, and will mentor junior engineers while leading scalable systems' architecture. This is a full-time position with a hybrid working model, requiring 3 days onsite and 2 days remote.

Qualifications

• 10+ years software engineering/systems architecture experience.
• 5+ years as senior technical contributor on complex production systems.
• Familiarity with diverse LLM provider APIs.
• Expert in Python and proficient in SQL.
• System design: monolithic and microservice architectures, distributed systems, APIs.
• Experience with LLMs and frontier models (Gemini, Claude, GPT).
• Familiarity with risk vectors in AI apps including hallucinations, bias, prompt injection, data privacy.
• Experience with RAG architecture and context engineering.
• Familiarity with diverse LLM provider APIs and connecting agents to systems.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the Executive Director on AI technical roadmap.
• Lead architecture of scalable systems incorporating LLMs.
• Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers.
• Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers on engineering best practices and system design (no direct reports).
• Conduct code/architectural reviews ensuring production readiness, safety, and adherence to high security and compliance standards.
• Implement testing, evaluation, and monitoring frameworks for AI systems including hallucination detection and bias assessment.
• Establish safety guardrails and responsible AI practices for LLM applications in a regulated environment.
• Connect AI agents to organizational systems and workflows.
