What You'll Do
- Integration Architecture & Platform Strategy
- Own the long-term architecture and technical vision for our client's integration platform.
- Design and evolve a scalable integration framework that enables new connectors to be deployed in weeks rather than months.
- Define standards, patterns, tooling, and best practices for integration development.
- Evaluate build-versus-buy decisions, integration partnerships, and iPaaS solutions.
- Collaborate closely with the Lead Architect to ensure integration strategy aligns with the broader platform roadmap.
Hands-On Integration Development
- Build, maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance production integrations across ERP, accounting, payroll, and project management systems.
- Develop APIs, services, sync processes, and integration tooling.
- Lead proofs of concept for new integration opportunities.
- Step into active development when urgent customer needs or partner capacity constraints arise.
- Drive technical quality and reliability across all integration initiatives.
ERP, Payroll & Accounting System Integrations
- Own integration strategy and execution across platforms including:
- QuickBooks Online
- QuickBooks Desktop
- Sage 100
- Sage 300
- Sage Intacct
- Foundation
- Vista Viewpoint
- COINS
- Acumatica
- Procore
- Trimble
- Paycor
- Plexxis
Responsibilities include:
- Designing synchronization logic and data mapping strategies.
- Managing state, conflict resolution, and recovery from partial failures.
- Building reconciliation workflows that proactively identify payroll and project data discrepancies.
- Supporting both cloud-based and on-premise integration environments.
- Serve as the primary technical escalation point for all integration-related initiatives.
- Partner directly with customers to gather requirements, design solutions, troubleshoot issues, and guide implementation.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Provide architectural oversight and technical direction to our external integration partner.
- Review designs, implementations, and release plans to ensure quality and consistency.
API Advocacy & Documentation
- Champion integration requirements throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Influence API design decisions to ensure long-term integration scalability.
- Own API documentation, versioning standards, schemas, and integration guides.
- Maintain comprehensive integration documentation, onboarding materials, and troubleshooting resources.
Sync Health & Operational Excellence
- Build and evolve monitoring, alerting, and observability capabilities for all integrations.
- Develop dashboards that provide visibility into sync health, lag, errors, and throughput.
- Create operational runbooks and incident response procedures.
- Lead resolution efforts during production incidents affecting customer integrations.
- Ensure customers and Customer Success teams have clear visibility into integration status and performance.
Build the Future Team
- Establish the technical foundation for an eventual in-house integrations organization.
- Create scalable processes, standards, and documentation.
- Help recruit, mentor, and develop future integration engineers as the team grows.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of software engineering experience with substantial integration architecture responsibilities.
- Proven experience building and supporting production integrations with ERP, accounting, payroll, or business-critical systems.
- A background in customer-facing communication (interfacing with clients that may be non-technical and working through configurations/requests).
- Direct experience with integrating QuickBooks Desktop, Sage products, Foundation, Vista Viewpoint, COINS, Acumatica, Procore, or Trimble platforms (REQUIRED SKILL).
Strong hands-on development experience with:
- Distributed systems and data synchronization
Deep understanding of:
- System-to-system integrations
- Batch processing
- State management
- Experience providing technical leadership and architectural direction to external development teams or implementation partners.
- Comfortable owning projects from requirements gathering through production support.
- Availability during Central Standard and Mountain Standard business hours with flexibility to support critical production incidents when necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting both cloud and on-premise integration environments.
- Familiarity with desktop sync agents, connector services, and hybrid architectures.
- Experience modernizing integration-heavy organizations from services-driven implementations to scalable product platforms.
- Experience with integration technologies such as MuleSoft, Workato, or Boomi.
- Familiarity with construction, environmental services, remediation, demolition, or related trades.
