Job summary

Riverside Methodist Hospital is seeking a Technical Laboratory Assistant for outpatient services. The role involves phlebotomy, specimen processing, and related clerical tasks in the Laboratory, with emphasis on safety and patient-focused service.

The position requires customer service, strong communication, medical terminology, and basic computer skills. Day shift and 40 hours per week are standard, with opportunities to support multiple campus lab operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED (Required).
• 6 months - 1 year experience in phlebotomy and/or specimen processing.
• Associates working in a skilled nursing facility setting are required to have an active driver’s license and carry personal auto insurance.

Responsibilities

• 70% Phlebotomy and/or specimen processing depending on job location.
• Adherence to Safety and Infection Control practices.
• Customer service to clinicians and clients.
• Must be comfortable and professional on the telephone, able to communicate with physician office staff and clinical staff, and laboratory associates.
• Must be able to communicate with patients and their families, and use service recovery where necessary.
• 15% Associated computer related tasks (i.e. LIS, e-Source)
• 5% Training new employees and students
• Adherence to regulatory compliance including National Patient Safety Goals, CAP, OSHA, JCAHO, CMS, OSH and Laboratory Policies and Procedures.
• Maintaining competencies, mandatory required education (ACE).
• Perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned.

He/she performs routine laboratory procedures based on principles of human growth and development according to established lab guidelines using customer focus, teamwork, adaptability to change, problem solving, communication and personal excellence. Position handles blood, tissue, fecal matter, sputum, urine, spinal fluid and other body fluids.
