Job description

**Summary:**

The Horizon Team at Meta is building a social User Generated Content (UGC) platform where people can find people, places, and things they care about -- a Metaverse without constraints where people have freedom of identity and expression and can experience living virtual worlds that could not exist in the real world. Our vision is to build a global-scale UGC platform where the world’s creators, performers, and more will create their place, and enable their communities to connect, engage and play in all kinds of ways.We are looking for a technical designer with tools development expertise to join the team responsible for creation on Horizon. You would be instrumental in defining the future of creation tools by directly designing interactions, interfaces and functionality for professional and semi-professional creators including generative AI. Success in this role stems from a native understanding of how to build useful and efficient tools for creators, builders, and game designers as well as a passion for being the bridge between creators’ needs and tool affordances. We highly value people who tinker, hack, and build on the side, and who are just as often the end user as they are the tool designer.

**Required Skills:**

Technical Game Designer (Tools) Responsibilities:

1. Design and implement intuitive, scalable tools that empower present and future creators to build their best content efficiently

2. Prototype, test, and document features, prefabs, plugins and pipelines to ensure smooth integration with the broader creation ecosystem

3. Contribute to strategic decisions, working with the Design and Product teams

4. Gather creator feedback to inform tool design choices

5. Partner with Product Management, Product Design and Engineering teams to facilitate prioritization, timely decisions and high-quality implementations

6. Drive alignment across cross-functional teams to ensure tool solutions are cohesive, scalable, and extensible

7. Create content using internal tools to self-identify pain points and opportunities

8. Clearly explain prototypes, design decisions, and concepts to a vast set of internal stakeholders

9. Advocate for the creator experience at all stages of the tool development process, synthesizing creator feedback to inform tool design, usability, and workflow improvements

10. Stay current with industry standards and tooling trends to continuously raise the bar for what great tools can be

**Minimum Qualifications:**

Minimum Qualifications:

11. 8+ Years of game development experience with at least 5 years designing and building game creation tools used to build shipped games

12. Proven understanding of tool usability, workflow optimization and prioritization of creator requests

13. Familiarity with game creation pipelines for art, design and engineering

14. Clear and concise communicator with proven leadership skills

15. Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams

**Preferred Qualifications:**

Preferred Qualifications:

16. Experience using Unity and other 3D game engines to create interactive experiences

17. Background in Human Computer Interaction, Usability Testing, User Interface design or equivalent

18. Knowledge of GenAI technologies and AI-driven design innovations.

19. Storytelling and communication skills to convey design decisions and advocate for the user experience.

20. Experience developing for VR and/or MR

**Public Compensation:**

$165,000/year to $231,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

**Industry:** Internet
