Job summary

Scion Technology is seeking an experienced Technical Engineering Manager (Physical AI) in the Boston area. This full-time, direct-hire role offers a hybrid schedule in North Reading, MA and leads a team building AI-enabled robotics capabilities.

You will guide initiatives from early development through production, balance innovation with reliability and cost, and mentor a team of AI/robotics engineers while collaborating across functions to deliver deployed solutions.

Scion Technology has been engaged to conduct a search for an experienced Technical Engineering Manager (Physical AI) for our client, a pioneering team pushing the boundaries of robotics in Boston! This is a full-time, direct hire position offering a hybrid schedule in North Reading, MA.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Lead a team building AI-enabled capabilities that allow robots to interpret their surroundings, navigate physical environments, and interact intelligently with objects and people. Guide initiatives from early development through production deployment while balancing innovation, reliability, cost, and customer requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own initiatives from technical definition through development, validation, release, and deployment
• Set technical direction for robotic perception, object understanding, localization, mapping, and other AI-enabled capabilities
• Guide the integration of machine-learning technologies into production robotics systems
• Evaluate technologies and make architecture decisions based on performance, cost, and application requirements
• Manage, mentor, and develop a team of AI/robotics engineers
• Promote strong engineering practices, technical ownership, and quality
• Establish priorities, milestones, resources, and risk-management plans
• Ensure solutions perform reliably in demanding industrial environments, support deployed products, and incorporate field feedback into future development

QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, robotics, AI/ML, or a related technical field
• Strong understanding of robotic perception and physical-world AI, with experience in areas such as obstacle detection, object recognition, pose estimation, etc.
• Experience using simulation or virtual environments for robotics development, testing, or synthetic-data generation; familiarity with NVIDIA Isaac is highly valuable.
• Understanding of modern AI/ML techniques applied to robotics, including emerging multimodal or vision-language-action technologies.
• Experience taking technical concepts from development through release and supporting systems in customer or field environments.
• Strong project-management and organizational skills, including managing priorities, timelines, risks, and dependencies.
• Experience managing and developing technical engineering teams strongly preferred.
• Strong mentoring, hiring, communication, and team-development skills desired.
• Collaborative leadership style with the ability to work effectively across technical and business functions.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This full-time position offers an annual base salary up to $35k, commensurate with experience plus bonus potential and equity. The organization provides a robust benefits package that includes comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage in addition to paid time off.
