Job summary

General Dynamics Information Technology seeks a hands-on Technical Engineering Lead with deep expertise across infrastructure, platforms, and application ecosystems spanning cloud and customer environments. You will serve as a technical authority for complex system issues on a client site in Tyson's, VA and lead modernization, migrations, and secure design initiatives.

Required is a proven track record building and integrating enterprise networks, storage, Linux, PKI, and cloud architectures

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related IT field or equivalent experience.
• 15+ years of experience in systems engineering and IT infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on systems engineering across network, compute, storage, OS, middleware, DBs and apps.
• Analyze and document as-is infrastructure, platforms, and application architecture.
• Create detailed engineering designs for modernization and transformation with System/Cloud Architect.
• Lead cloud and system implementations, migrations, and upgrades.
• Ensure availability, scalability, performance, security, and compliance.
• Integrate infrastructure with DevOps/DevSecOps pipelines.
• Troubleshoot cross-stack issues across infra, platforms, and apps.
• Collaborate across teams to address system issues.
• Develop technical docs, diagrams, standards and related docs.
• Brief leadership translating technical issues into business impact.

We are seeking a hands-on Systems Engineer with deep expertise across infrastructure, platforms, and application ecosystems spanning cloud and customer environments, and to serve as a technical authority for complex system issues.

Key Responsibilities & Expectations

• Demonstrated experience performing hands-on systems engineering across network, compute, storage, operating systems, middleware, databases, and applications

• Demonstrated experience analyzing and documenting as-is infrastructure, platform, and application architecture

• Demonstrated experience creating detail engineering design for modernization, optimization, and transformation initiatives working with System and Cloud Architect

• Demonstrated experience leading and executing cloud and system implementations, migrations, and upgrades

• Ensure systems meet availability, scalability, performance, security, and compliance requirements

• Demonstrated experience integrating infrastructure and platforms with DevOps and DevSecOps pipelines

• Demonstrated experience troubleshooting complex, cross-stack issues within the infrastructure, platforms, and applications.

• Demonstrated experience collaborating across multiple teams and stakeholders to address and elevate complete system issues

• Demonstrated experience developing technical documentation, diagrams, standards and associated documents

• Ability to brief leadership, translate technical issues into business impact

MANDATORY TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS -

Candidates mustdemonstrated hands-on Experience in all the following areas:

Infrastructure & Platforms

• Enterprise networking (e.g., routing, switching, firewalls, load balancers, DNS)

• Storage technologies (e.g., SAN, NAS, object storage)

• Container platforms (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker)

• Linux (Redhat, CentOS) operating systems (administration, hardening, automation)

• IdAM - Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) hands-on for AuthN and AuthZ

Cloud & On-Prem Technologies

• Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, and/or GCP)

• Hybrid and on-prem infrastructure design and integration

• Cloud networking, identity, security, and cost optimization

Data & Application Platforms

• Relational and NoSQL databases - relational (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB, Redis) databases.

• Web services, APIs, and middleware

• Software development lifecycle 9SDLC) fundamentals

• Event-based messaging systems (e.g., SQS, SNS, RabbitMQ)

Engineering & Automation

• Infrastructure as Code - Scripting & Automation: Python, Bash, PowerShell, Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation

• Configuration management and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python, etc.)

• CI/CD integration with infrastructure and platforms (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, GitOps, ArgoCD)

• Security best practices and system hardening

• Monitoring & Incident Response: Proficiency with tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, ELK Stack, CloudWatch

Architecture & Design

• Ability to create:
• As-is architecture documentation
• T-be architecture and detailed engineering design
• Implementation and migration plans

DESIRED/Preferred Technical Requirements:

• Observability and monitoring tools (e.g., logging, metrics, tracing)

• Zero Trust and modern security architectures

• Data analytics, AI/ML platform exposure

• Experience supporting production or mission-critical environments

• Relevant certifications (e.g., cloud, systems, security, or architecture)

• Knowledge of machine learning platforms (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, SageMaker)

• Familiarity with big data ecosystems (e.g., Hadoop, Databricks, Snowflake, Google BigQuery)

• Strong background in ITIL processes and agile methodologies

• Certifications: AWS Solutions Architect / DevOps Engineer, Azure Administrator, Kubernetes CKS/CKAD, ITIL Foundation

What You'll Need to Succeed:

• Education: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Engineering, or other IT-related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.
• Experience: 15+ years
• Security clearance level: TS/SCI with Polygraph
