Job summary

Univision Chicago is seeking a Technical Director to lead broadcast and production operations, directing on-air elements and live shows with strong technical oversight. The role requires night, weekend, and holiday shifts, working closely with master control and sat ops to ensure seamless transmissions.

The candidate will oversee graphics, switching, Robo-Cam, lighting, and non-linear editing within the Avid/Vizrt ecosystem, while maintaining high standards of professionalism and team

Qualifications

• Experience directing on-air elements for television productions.
• Ability to communicate effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Familiarity with Vizrt graphics workflows and studio control techniques.
• Proficiency with Sony switchers and Avid ecosystem for live/edited content.
• Experience with studio lighting, Robo-Cam, and non-linear editing workflows.

Responsibilities

• Direct all elements of on-air broadcast, audio, and video for a station program.
• Block and code rundowns; manage production execution of newscasts and live cut-ins.
• Operate Studio Control and Vizrt graphics in a fast-paced environment.
• Direct live shows using Sony switcher, ELC, and Avid tools.
• Manage Robo-Cam, lighting, and camera feeds during productions.
• Perform non-linear editing with Avid Media Composer and related tools.
• Manage inbound feeds, routing via Microwave/Satellite, and associated equipment.
• Coordinate with master control, sat ops, and other station departments.

ABOUT THE ROLE & TEAM

Univision Chicago is seeking for a Technical Director with skills in broadcast/media management and technical operations. This position will require work on nights, weekends and holidays. Rate: $39.00/H

YOUR DAY-DAY: Effective operation and execution, but not limited to, of the following:

• Direct all elements of on-air elements, audio, and video of a station television program or segment
• Blocking, coding of rundown and production execution of a newscast, pre-recorded show, live cut-ins, pre-recorded cut-ins and station ID’s
• Studio Control Operation - Knowledge of Vizrt Graphics Operation Software
• Technical Direct Live Show - Knowledge of Sony switcher, Sony ELC and Avid ecosystem
• Robo-Cam Operation
• Lighting Operation
• Non-linear Editing - Knowledge of Avid Media Composer and Media Central editing software
• Inbound feed management, prep/processing and routing (Microwave & Satellite) - Knowledge of Avid Capture Recording Equipment
• Communication with all departments at station, master control operations hub and sat ops centers
