Job summary

FOX 17 News- WXMI in Grand Rapids, MI seeks a Technical Director to oversee the setup, operation, and dismantling of production equipment and to direct assigned newscasts. You will troubleshoot during production and coordinate with the news team to maintain the desired on-air look.

The role requires proficiency with television production workflows, strong communication, and the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines in a fast-paced newsroom environment.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred
• Specialized training/certification may be required
• Generally, 2+ years of experience in related field preferred

Responsibilities

• Oversee setup, dismantling and operations of camera, audio, video and lighting equipment.
• Ensure smooth operation of technical equipment and services during broadcast.
• Troubleshoot technical problems during production or broadcast.
• Direct assigned newscasts, including switching and pre-production for all newscasts.
• Monitor status of all live shots and content prior to live broadcasts.
• Work with news staff to ensure desired on-air look is attained.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
