Job description

The Position

A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Roche.

Analytical Operations (AO) is a non-GMP laboratory that prides itself on high through-put analytical testing, efficient data management, and robust business processes supporting early stage R&D development and process validation testing. As part of the Analytical Development Quality Control (ADQC) organization, we offer analytical support through innovation, technical expertise, and collaboration enabling timely and scientifically informed decisions to ensure the delivery of the diverse pipeline.

The Opportunity

Genentech's Analytical Operations (AO) department is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Scientist to join the Large Molecule Impurity group. This group plays a critical role in characterizing and detecting process-related impurities of biopharmaceutical products, such as host cell proteins, protein A/L ligands, endotoxins, beta-glucans, and other large molecule process impurities, supporting both process development and validation activities.

As a Technical Development Scientist 1, you will collaborate with experienced scientists to support the development, optimization, and maintenance of various analytical methods for detecting and quantifying impurities. Your work will directly contribute to ensuring the safety and quality of our products through rigorous testing and data analysis. Candidates for this position will be expected to work independently and have prior laboratory experience. As part of the AO department, there will be additional opportunities and expectations to support non-impurities based assays, as needed.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct routine and non-routine analytical testing using various techniques, such as ELISA, PCR, HPLC, CE, CE-SDS, and LC-MS according to established protocols.
  • Document experimental procedures, results, and data analysis in electronic notebook, adhering to ALCOA+ principle.
  • Prepare assay reagents and maintain laboratory instruments.
  • Handle biological and chemical reagents safely.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the department and cross-functional teams.
  • Follow best laboratory practices, safety guidelines, and maintain compliance with regulatory standards.

Who You Are

  • You possess a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, or related scientific field.
  • You have a minimum of two years of relevant laboratory experience with a Bachelor's degree, or a Master's degree with laboratory experience, preferably in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry.
  • You have previous hands-on experience with ELISA.
  • You are familiar with analytical techniques such as qPCR, CE, Western blotting, and/or LC-MS is highly desirable.
  • You have strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present work clearly in formal settings.
  • You are self-motivated, highly organized, with strong attention to detail, and able to manage multiple tasks effectively as a team player.
  • You have knowledge of GMP compliance and intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel is desirable.
  • You are able to lift up to 20lbs for lab related tasks.
