Torrid in City of Industry, California, is seeking a Technical Designer to oversee the technical product development process and ensure fit, construction, and quality across categories. You will develop apparel specs, attend fittings, and liaise daily with vendors.

Required are a four-year degree in fashion merchandising/design or related field, plus 5+ years in technical design or quality assurance. Strong Adobe Illustrator, Word, and Excel skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Adjust patterns as needed and maintain Torrid grade standards.
  • Track fit approvals and deadlines with Product Development teams.
  • Mentor assistants and coordinate weekly cross-functional meetings.

Start Date: ASAP
Pay Rate: $38 - $40/hr
Assignment Length: 3 months with potential extension
Schedule: Full Time, 8 hours/day (40 hours/week) Monday-Friday in office

Please note: This will be a W-2 In-house contract role
The Technical Designer will oversee the technical product development process and ensure consistency of fit, construction and quality in the assigned product categories, Responsible for the development of apparel specifications, attending weekly fittings, attending weekly cross-functional meetings, and issuing fit comments with direct daily contact to vendors.

What You'll Do:
  • Responsible for fit, construction, quality, and consistency of assigned product category from development to production, including:
    • Attending development handover meetings and creating initial specs
    • Attending and leading fits and issuing clear and concise fit comments to overseas vendors
    • Adjusting patterns when necessary.
    • Reviewing and maintaining apparel construction and quality standards.
    • Reviewing and maintaining Torrid grade and tolerance standards
    • Works closely with PD to track and maintain fit approval deadlines.
  • Work closely with Product Development to track and maintain approval deadlines.
  • Support Lead Technical Designer.
  • Knowledge and ability to lead fittings and make decisions independently.
  • Attend meetings with Merchants, Product Development, and design weekly to review work in progress, best and worst sellers and discuss updates and changes for the week within each category.
  • Mentor and assist the assistant and associate technical designers.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
What You'll Need:
  • High School required a four (4)-year college degree in fashion merchandising/design preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years in technical design, pattern making, or quality assurance, or a combination of education with equivalent work experience.
  • Swin category experience preferred
  • Previous technical design experience is required
  • Previous retail or garment manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Strong computer skills including Adobe Illustrator, MS Word, and Excel.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of fit, balance, pattern grading, garment construction/production, fabrics, fabric performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams.
  • Illustrates a dedication to meeting requirements of internal and external customers, responding to all customer requests promptly and thoroughly.
  • Upholds and furthers Torrid's culture and values. Inquisitiveness and open mind regarding fashion trends.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing with all levels of management.
