Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join the MK1 Lunar Lander team within the Lunar Permanence Business Unit in Seattle. You will craft detail layouts and release data using Creo and PLM tools, and contribute to the design of spacecraft primary and secondary structures.

You will work with cross-functional teams to select materials, ensure manufacturability, and maintain tight tolerances. A2+ years aerospace experience and GD&T proficiency are required.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in CAD and design or related field.
  • 2+ years in aerospace development or similar industry.
  • Proficiency with Creo Parametric and Windchill for drawing release.
  • Strong GD&T (ASME Y14.5) knowledge.
  • Experience managing large CAD assemblies and BOMs.
  • Design experience for spacecraft structure and mounting hardware.
  • Excellent detail orientation and clear communication.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare design layouts and release data sets using CAD and PLM tools.
  • Review drawings for compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Support mechanical layout and detail design for fluids parts and assemblies.

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

The position will work directly on the MK1 Lunar Lander within the Lunar Permanence Business Unit. Bring your technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities
  • Preparing design layouts, creating detail part and assembly drawings/MBDs, and releasing data sets using CAD and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools.
  • Reviewing engineering drawing and designs to ensure alignment to established specifications and standards.
  • Supporting engineering teams in the development with mechanical layout and detail design and drawing for fluids detail parts and assemblies including tube routing.
  • Applying relevant company (design, drafting, parts) techniques to plan, layout, and maintain data depicting engineering designs (detail, assembly and installation drawings or datasets).
  • Implementing engineering and manufacturing standard methodologies to achieve a balanced approach to cost, schedule and performance requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Computer Aided Drafting & Design.
  • 2+ years of experience in aerospace development or similar industry.
  • Proficiency in drawing generation and release processes using Creo Parametric and Windchill.
  • Proficiency in standard fits, tolerance stacks, and GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5).
  • Experience managing large CAD assemblies, BOMs, ICMs, and skeletons.
  • Experience in designing spacecraft primary structure, secondary structure, and component mounting hardware.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and developing the design to produce world-class engineered products.
  • Excellent attention to detail and task ownership, someone who demonstrates pride in all work and willingness to perform low-level tasks when needed.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent. 4 years or greater proven experience.
  • Experience releasing engineering data sets using Model Based Definition.
  • Experience with material selection, compatibility, and metallic manufacturing techniques & product forms (composites, sheet metal, machining, etc.).
  • Experience designing for manufacturability.

Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical.

Base Pay Range

CA applicants is $34.39 - $48.14 CO applicants is $31.53 - $44.13 WA applicants is $34.39 - $48.14 Other site ranges may differ
