Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the MK1 Lunar Lander within the Lunar Permanence Business Unit. You will prepare design layouts, create detail part and assembly drawings, and release data sets using Creo Parametric and Windchill.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet specifications, tolerances, and manufacturability while maintaining quality and safety standards essential to spaceflight.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Computer Aided Drafting & Design.
  • 2+ years of experience in aerospace development or similar industry.
  • Proficiency in drawing generation and release processes using Creo Parametric and Windchill.
  • Proficiency in standard fits, tolerance stacks, and GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5).
  • Experience managing large CAD assemblies, BOMs, ICMs, and skeletons.
  • Experience in designing spacecraft primary structure, secondary structure, and component mounting hardware.
  • Experience working in a cross‑functional team responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and developing the design to produce world‑class engineered products.
  • Excellent attention to detail and task ownership, someone who demonstrates pride in all work and willingness to perform low‑level tasks when needed.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent.
  • 4 years or greater proven experience.
  • Experience releasing engineering data sets using Model Based Definition.
  • Experience with material selection, compatibility, and metallic manufacturing techniques & product forms (composites, sheet metal, machining, etc.)
  • Experience designing for manufacturability.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing engineering drawing and designs to ensure alignment to established specifications and standards.

  • Applying relevant company (design, drafting, parts) techniques to plan, layout, and maintain data depicting engineering designs (detail, assembly and installation drawings or datasets).
  • Implementing engineering and manufacturing standard methodologies to achieve a balanced approach to cost, schedule and performance requirements.

Base Pay Range for:
  • CA applicants is $34.39 - $48.14
  • CO applicants is $31.53 - $44.13
  • WA applicants is $34.39 - $48.14
  • Other site ranges may differ
