Job summary

Kohl’s Design Office in New York seeks a Technical Designer to develop technical specifications for Kohl’s Proprietary Brands, ensuring brand ID and grading standards are met. You will collaborate with Product Integrity, vendors, and suppliers through PLM, review samples for improvements, and guide new hires while maintaining accurate documentation.

Onsite Monday–Thursday with Friday remote, joining a fast-paced team focused on quality, fit and market competitiveness.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Technical Design, Fashion Design, Pattern Making, Manufacturing or related industries.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Manufacturing or a related field of expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Develop accurate technical specifications aligning with Kohl’s brand ID, minimum construction standards, tolerances and grading requirements.
  • Collaborate with Product Integrity to ensure products meet performance testing protocols and requirements.
  • Conduct benchmarking and remain current on market trends and competition, providing recommendations based on insights.
  • Apply industry knowledge to resolve fit and production issues, fostering supplier and peer relationships.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in grading and consistency management, aligning with Technical Design Leadership and suppliers to implement changes.
  • Prepare for the Seasonal Sample Fit Benchmark by reviewing samples and presenting hypotheses for product improvements.
  • Guide new hires on Kohl’s processes and procedures.
  • Communicate technical specifications and collaborate with Vendors via PLM during product development.
  • Communicate sample corrections clearly to Vendors through written summaries, sketches and photos.
  • Support vendor onboarding and Certified Technical Designer training.
  • Additional tasks may be assigned.

About the Role

As Technical Designer, you will execute technical product specifications for multiple complex programs within Kohl’s Proprietary Brands.

What Skills You Have
Required

Preferred
  • Experience using PLM and Adobe Illustrator or similar specification packages and sketching programs

  • Knowledge of textiles, construction and pattern-making/grading

This role is based at our New York Design Office. You’ll work onsite from Monday through Thursday, with the option to work remotely on Fridays.

Pay Range: $90,600.00 - $153,100.00
