Job summary

OOBE Apparel Design Group, Inc. in Greenville, SC seeks a Technical Designer to bridge design and production with a focus on fit, construction, and quality.

The role requires expertise in garment construction, pattern making, and tech pack development to ensure accurate production specs. The ideal candidate has 3–5 years in technical design, proficiency in Illustrator/PLM, and strong collaboration across design, development, and manufacturing teams.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of garment construction, grading, fit.
  • Proficient in design software (Illustrator, PLM).
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Knowledge of 3D design tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain detailed tech packs with construction, measurements, and fit specs.
  • Conduct fit sessions and provide feedback to pattern makers and factories.
  • Create and review graded specs for various sizes to ensure consistent fit.
  • Troubleshoot construction and technical issues during development and production.
  • Ensure all products meet brand standards for fit and quality before production.
  • Stay updated on fabrics, trims, and industry best practices to improve quality and fit.
  • Collaborate with designers, product developers, and manufacturers on feasibility and integrity.
  • Maintain clear communication with factories and production teams.

What You Will Do as a Technical Designer

The Technical Designer role bridges the gap between design and production, ensuring that garment designs are executed with precision, fit, and quality. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of garment construction, pattern making, fit evaluation, and technical specifications.

How You Will Make a Difference

Product Development: Develop and maintain detailed tech packs, including construction details, measurements, and fit specifications. Conduct fit sessions and provide clear feedback to pattern makers and factories. Create and review graded specs for various sizes, ensuring consistency in fit and proportion. Troubleshoot and resolve technical and construction issues throughout the development and production process. Ensure all products meet brand standards for fit and quality before final production.

Market Analysis: Stay updated on fabric properties, trims, and industry best practices to improve garment quality construction, performance and fit.

Collaboration: Collaborate with designers, product developers, and manufacturers to ensure design integrity and technical feasibility.

Communication: Maintain effective communication with factories and production teams to ensure accurate construction, quality and fit of the product is maintained.

Quality Assurance: Ensure all products meet brand standards for fit, construction, and quality before final production.

Continuous Learning: Stay informed about industry trends, new materials, and design techniques to contribute fresh ideas and innovation.

Skills for Success

Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Technology or a related field.

3-5 years of experience in a technical design and pattern making with a strong knowledge of garment construction, grading fit.

Proficient in design software (Adobe Illustrator, PLM).

Understanding of garment construction, fabrics, and manufacturing processes.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate with production teams.

Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

High attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in designs and adherence to brand standards.

Up-to-date knowledge of fashion trends, materials, and design techniques.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Ability to work in a cross functional team environment.

Proactive on problem solving and resolution oriented.

Understands OOBE Purpose & Values and is willing to be accountable to them.

Knowledge of 3D design tools.
