Job description

Technical Design Studio Intern

Department: Design Studio / Technical Design Type: Internship (Full-time / Part-time) Location: New York, NY

About the Role

We're looking for a passionate and detail-oriented Technical Design Intern to join our design studio team. This is a hands‑on opportunity to work alongside our technical designers throughout the fitting and product development process, gaining real‑world experience in how fashion moves from concept to a perfectly fitting garment.

You’ll be embedded in the day‑to‑day rhythm of our studio — attending fittings, supporting spec development, and learning how technical decisions shape the final product.

What You’ll Do
  • Assist technical designers during fit sessions, including prepping garments, taking notes, and logging fit comments
  • Support the creation and maintenance of tech packs, including construction details, measurements, and fit callouts
  • Help update and track spec sheets across seasonal styles and size ranges
  • Communicate fit revisions and grading comments to internal teams and vendors
  • Organize and maintain fit samples, trims, and fabric references in the studio
  • Conduct basic garment measurements and comparison against spec
  • Support the team with administrative tasks related to the product development calendar
What We’re Looking For
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Fashion Design, Apparel Production, Fashion Merchandising, or related program
  • A foundational understanding of garment construction, pattern making, or fit principles
  • Strong attention to detail — you notice when a seam is 3mm off
  • Clear and organized written communication skills for spec and fit note documentation
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple styles simultaneously
  • A collaborative spirit and eagerness to learn from experienced technical designers
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets; familiarity with PLM systems is a plus
Nice to Have
  • Experience with Adobe Illustrator for technical flat sketches
  • Familiarity with grading and size standards
  • Previous studio, atelier, or internship experience in a production or technical role
What You’ll Gain
  • Mentorship from senior technical designers with industry experience
  • Exposure to the full technical design and fitting process from proto through production
  • Hands‑on experience building and maintaining tech packs
  • An understanding of how cross‑functional teams (design, production, vendors) collaborate to bring a garment to life
  • Optional: Academic credit available
  • Hourly rate if Academic credit does not apply.

We are an equal opportunity employer and celebrate diversity in all forms. We encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply.
