Job summary

Outer Armor by Commercial Sewing, Inc. is seeking a Technical Design Assistant to support the development and production of marine and powersports products.

You will manage technical data, support pattern development, and collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to turn design concepts into production-ready products. The role requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, strong computer skills, patternmaking knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple projects.

Qualifications

  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn technical software systems.
  • Good mathematical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Basic blueprint reading and interpretation skills.
  • Knowledge of patternmaking principles and sewing terminology.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Experience with Gerber, CAD, or other pattern design software.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update product specifications within the Vantage system.
  • Manage Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and ensure documentation remains accurate and current.
  • Create, modify, and maintain mini patterns using the Gerber pattern design system.
  • Support product development projects from design through production.
  • Collaborate with engineering, patternmaking, and production teams to resolve design questions and improve product quality.
  • Assist with technical documentation, product records, and process updates.
  • Conduct time studies and collecting production data to support process improvements.
  • Help coordinate research, testing, and development activities.
  • Ensure design and production information is accurate, organized, and accessible.
