Job summary

Valley Health in Winchester, VA, seeks a Technical Coordinator, Chemistry to lead core lab operations and oversee chemistry workflows, QA/QC, and interdepartmental initiatives. The role requires 5+ years of clinical laboratory experience in Chemistry, ASCP or equivalent certification, and strong communication across patient‑facing teams.

• Associates Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Chemical, Biological, or Physical Science required
• Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Chemical, Biological, or Physical Science preferred

Responsibilities

• Serve as subject matter expert in Chemistry and Core Lab Automation.
• Maintain technical competency and ensure staff competency.
• Evaluate and implement new technologies with teams.
• Oversee training for new hires and complete training checklists.
• Oversee equipment maintenance with proper documentation.
• Oversee QC/QA programs and data documentation.
• Administer QC Vendor applications and Middleware; update QC parameters.
• Resolve technical and departmental operational problems.
• Support LIS, QA, and Education initiatives with the team.
• Maintain inventory to ensure continuity of service.
• Assist in personnel scheduling and performance reviews.
• Participate in facility meetings and generate reports.
• Revise procedures per accreditation standards and update policies.

Department LABORATORY - 207010 Worker Sub Type Regular Work Shift Second Shift (United States of America) Pay Range $31.54 - $47.30

Responsibilities and Duties

• Serves as subject matter expert in Chemistry and Core Lab Automation and contributes to strategic planning for intradepartmental and interdepartmental initiatives.
• Maintains technical competency in Chemistry and ensures ongoing and documented competency of departmental and generalist staff members.
• Evaluates and implements new technologies in conjunction with intradepartmental and interdepartmental team members.
• Performs, delegates, and/or oversees departmental training for new hires and ensures completion of training checklist.
• Performs, delegates, and/or oversees equipment maintenance; ensures maintenance is completed on schedule and with appropriate documentation.
• Performs, delegates, and/or oversees performance, accuracy and documentation of quality control and quality assurance programs.
• Serves as administrator for QC Vendor applications and Middleware; programs and updates quality control parameters for all assays in multiple platforms.
• Resolves technical and department operational problems.
• Provides departmental support for LIS, Quality Assurance, and Education initiatives in conjunction with other team members.
• Maintains adequate inventory of supplies to ensure continuity of service.
• Assists in personnel scheduling.
• Provides insight for personnel performance evaluations, goal planning, and performance improvement.
• Participates in intradepartmental and interdepartmental facility meetings and committees; generates reports and presents data in areas of expertise.
• Reviews and revises procedure manuals based accreditation standards; creates new policies and procedures when indicated; communicates policy updates to appropriate staff.

Education

• Associates Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Chemical, Biological, or Physical Science required
• Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Chemical, Biological, or Physical Science preferred

Experience

• 5 years of clinical laboratory experience with a focus in Chemistry required
• 2 years of experience as Chemistry Supervisor preferred

Certification & Licensure

• American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent board certification required

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
• Demonstrated knowledge/competency in providing service to patients of all ages including neonate, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric required
