Backed by Philo Ventures, a leading Utah venture studio, Townhall is looking for a Technical Co-Founder / Founding Engineer to spearhead product development and build a world-class engineering team.

This is a rare opportunity to own the technical vision, shape the product roadmap, and lead the development of a high-impact platform from the ground up. You’ll be a core member of the founding team, with significant influence over technology, strategy, and execution—along with meaningful equity upside.

The Role:

As the first engineering hire, you’ll play a critical role in building and scaling Townhall’s AI-driven platform. You’ll be deeply hands-on in software development while also helping define the company’s technical strategy. Over time, you’ll grow and lead an exceptional engineering team.

What You’ll Do:

• Own the development of Townhall’s greenfield codebase, making foundational technical decisions.
• Build and ship production-quality software quickly, iterating closely with the product team.
• Leverage AI to improve automation, insights, and decision-making within municipal governance.
• Develop and maintain scalable, high-performance applications, focusing on both frontend and backend systems.
• Establish engineering best practices and processes for a high-velocity startup environment.
• Act as a strategic thought partner to Townhall leadership, shaping the product roadmap and technical vision.
• Eventually lead and mentor a growing engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
• Work closely with Philo Ventures' internal resources, including engineering, to accelerate success.

What We’re Looking For:

• Founder mentality – ownership, resourcefulness, and the ability to thrive in ambiguity.
• Product-first engineering mindset – focus on delivering customer value over pure technical complexity.
• Full-stack expertise – strong experience in frontend & backend development (React, TypeScript, Next.js, PostgreSQL a plus).
• Startup experience – prior work at an early-stage company or high-growth tech startup.
• Bias for action – you move fast, make pragmatic trade-offs, and iterate efficiently.
• AI fluency – experience integrating AI models or working with AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, etc.) is a plus.
• Experience working with large datasets – especially in the context of parsing, processing, and extracting insights.
• Strong communication and leadership skills – ability to influence company strategy and mentor future team members.
• Willingness to work hybrid – 3 days per week in Lehi, UT (preferred), with remote flexibility.
