Technical Claims Manager – Direct (Asbestos)

Join Compre Group as a Technical Claims Manager – Direct (Asbestos). The role is based in the United States (primarily Seattle, WA) and is full‑time. Compensation ranges from $92,500.00 to $138,800.00. The position is hybrid, requiring two days in‑office, remote from East Coast preferred.

We are a fast‑growing global reinsurance specialist company servicing the insurance markets of Lloyd’s, Europe and North America.

Overview

The VP of Claims North America is looking for a Technical Claims Manager – Direct to lead a team of experienced complex claims handlers. You will proactively manage direct claims portfolios across various jurisdictions and lines of business, including latent/long‑tail claims such as Asbestos, Pollution, Sexual Abuse, and other latent liabilities, as well as US Casualty, GL, Property & construction, BI and multiline claims. Additional responsibilities include handling larger, more complex claims and providing technical oversight of third parties and delegated authority referrals. You will ensure optimal handling and sound settlements of all claims in line with company targets, policies and procedures, supporting the execution of the company’s business plan.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with the group claims handling philosophy by internal and external claims handlers.
• Maintain a high level of customer service in claims, measured through client feedback, minimised complaints and internal SLAs.
• Deliver required performance outcomes, including indemnity control, claims savings, expense cost control and other identified KPIs.
• Provide technical management of complex claims, ensuring appropriate skill levels within internal and external teams.
• Manage internal claims resources; set objectives, direct activity and manage performance.
• Monitor and control claims leakage identified through peer review and audit.
• Review and oversee claims referred from TPAs outside delegated authorities.
• Maintain and develop claim handling skills within the team through training and assessment.
• Provide technical assistance to the Claims Due Diligence process for new business acquisitions.
• Ensure appropriate claims coverage considerations and work with the Legal team on coverage reviews.
• Lead the team in due diligence efforts and represent claims in potential new business reviews.

Candidate Requirements

• Right to work in the United States.
• 10+ years of experience handling complex claims and coverage, and/or related insurance experience.
• Strong influencing skills with counterparties and in guiding junior team members.
• Proficient in MS Excel, Word and other systems.
• Flexibility to adapt knowledge to new books of business.
• Ability to build, manage and mentor a team using Compre Values.
• Day‑to‑day management and performance management of claim professionals.
• Experience in testifying in disputes as a corporate and fact witness.
