Job summary

Convergix Automation Solutions is seeking a Technical Buyer to manage supplier relationships, inventory and shop operations, ensuring timely delivery and efficient workflow. The role requires mechanical and electrical knowledge, strong organization, and diligence in handling vendor management and BOM changes.

The candidate will review drawings, evaluate supplier capability, and support DFx and make-versus-buy decisions, while traveling up to 20% as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in supply chain, business, engineering, manufacturing, or related discipline preferred.
• Ability to work from drawings, specifications, BOMs, tolerances, routings, and engineering change information.
• Strong commercial judgment and collaboration across engineering, quality, operations, and supplier technical teams.
• Ownership of performance metrics (e.g., OTD, savings targets) in a prior sourcing or buying role.
• Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with competing priorities and a high volume of concurrent sourcing activity.

• Review drawings, tolerances, materials, routings, BOM requirements, and revision changes with engineering and operations.
• Evaluate supplier capability, process fit, capacity, and quality risk for F&M and engineered scope.
• Support DFx, make-versus-buy, alternate source reviews with engineering input.
• Lead RFQs and negotiations to preserve quality, delivery, and specs.
• Maintain ERP data for materials classes and drive corrective action when performance slips.

The Role

The Technical Buyer at CONVERGIX, plays a key role in managing supplier relationships, inventory, and shop operations to ensure timely delivery and efficient workflow. The position requires a background in engineering or manufacturing, strong mechanical and electrical knowledge, organizational skills, and attention to detail. The role is hands-on, involving tasks from vendor management to materials handling, and offers a comprehensive benefits package. Key Responsibilities

• Source machined parts, fabricated components, custom assemblies, and technically defined services to specification.
• Review drawings, tolerances, materials, routings, BOM requirements, and revision changes with engineering and operations to ensure sourcing clarity.
• Evaluate supplier technical capability, process fit, capacity, and quality risk for F&M and other engineered scope.
• Support DFM/DFMA, make-versus-buy, alternate source, and substitute material/component reviews with engineering input.
• Lead technical-commercial RFQs and negotiations while preserving quality, delivery, and specification integrity.
• Manage technical deviations, clarifications, NCR-related supply issues, and documentation needed for award and execution.
• Maintain accurate item, supplier, quote, and PO data in ERP systems for technical material classes.
• Coach buyers and project teams on technical sourcing risks, supplier selection logic, and cost-versus-delivery tradeoffs.
• Own key sourcing metrics (OTD, cost savings) with accountability for tracking, reporting, and driving corrective action when performance slips.
• Operate with a strong sense of urgency on time-sensitive technical sourcing issues, escalating and resolving supply risks before they impact production or project schedules.
• Ability to travel 15 – 20% to support business operations

Qualifications and Experience

• 5–8 years of experience sourcing engineered products, fabricated parts, machined components, controls, or industrial equipment.
• Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in supply chain, business, engineering, manufacturing, or related discipline preferred.
• Ability to work from drawings, specifications, BOMs, tolerances, routings, and engineering change information.
• Strong commercial judgment and collaboration skills across engineering, quality, operations, and supplier technical teams.
• Ownership of performance metrics (e.g., OTD, savings targets) in a prior sourcing or buying role, with a track record of proactively addressing gaps rather than waiting for direction
• Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with competing priorities and a high volume of concurrent sourcing activity.

Physical Demands

• While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk and hear.
• Occasionally lifts or move up to 25 pounds.
