Fredrikson & Byron, P.A. is seeking a Technical Business Analyst to join the PMO within Legal Operations. You will partner with attorneys and stakeholders to understand business needs, map processes, and define requirements for technology initiatives.

You will lead discovery, requirements gathering, testing support, and operational readiness, translating needs into actionable stories for technical teams. This role is hybrid, with in-office two days per week.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in technical business analysis or a related field.
  • Experience mapping processes, data flows, and integrations.
  • Knowledge of application architecture, APIs, data handling, and security.
  • Experience supporting technology implementations through discovery, design, testing, and readiness.
  • Understanding of project intake, estimates, dependencies, risks, and governance.
  • Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and handle confidential information.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with departments, attorneys, and leadership to understand needs and outcomes.
  • Lead discovery via interviews, workshops, process reviews, and data analysis.
  • Document current and future-state processes, workflows, and data mappings.
  • Assess impact and risk to identify priorities and escalation needs.
  • Prioritize competing needs based on client impact, revenue, and dependencies.
  • Map processes to applications, data, vendors, and access requirements.
  • Define and maintain business, functional, data, integration, security, and reporting requirements.
  • Translate requirements into user stories, acceptance criteria, and vendor criteria.
  • Collaborate with technical teams and vendors on architecture, integrations, and constraints.
  • Develop test scenarios, coordinate UAT, track defects, and verify outcomes.
  • Support operational readiness including security, data, training, maintenance, and recovery.
  • Provide analyses, estimates, dependencies, risks, and impacts to project managers.
  • Maintain up-to-date process, system, and continuity documentation.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly and manage issue resolution or handoff.

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Technical Business Analyst to join our Project Management Office (PMO) within Legal Operations. This role will partner with teams across the firm to understand business and technical needs, analyze processes and systems, define requirements, and help deliver practical solutions that support firm operations. The Technical Business Analyst will lead discovery, process and systems analysis, requirements gathering, testing support, and operational readiness for a variety of technology and operational initiatives. This individual will work closely with business owners, project managers, technical teams, and vendors to identify priorities, dependencies, risks, and opportunities for improvement. This role is eligible for hybrid work with an in-office requirement of two days per week.

Key Responsibilities Include
  • Partner with operational departments, attorneys, and firm leadership to understand business needs, priorities, challenges, and desired outcomes.
  • Lead discovery efforts through stakeholder interviews, workshops, process reviews, systems analysis, and data analysis to identify root causes and opportunities for improvement.
  • Document current and future-state processes, system workflows, business rules, data flows, integrations, controls, dependencies, and exceptions.
  • Assess business impact and operational risk to help identify critical processes, priorities, dependencies, and escalation needs.
  • Help prioritize competing business needs based on client impact, legal obligations, revenue, operational risk, timing, and dependencies.
  • Map business processes to supporting applications, infrastructure, data, vendors, access requirements, locations, teams, and other dependencies.
  • Define, validate, document, and maintain business, functional, data, integration, security, reporting, and support requirements.
  • Translate requirements into user stories, acceptance criteria, specifications, data mappings, decision logs, and vendor evaluation criteria.
  • Partner with technical teams and vendors to evaluate system architecture, integrations, data handling, configuration options, technical constraints, and support considerations.
  • Develop test scenarios and acceptance criteria, coordinate user acceptance testing, track defects, and validate that solutions meet identified requirements.
  • Support operational readiness by identifying needs related to security, data, records, training, support, ownership, maintenance, and recovery.
  • Provide project managers with analysis deliverables, estimates, dependencies, assumptions, risks, and potential impacts of proposed changes.
  • Maintain accurate and current process, system, dependency, testing, and continuity documentation.
  • Provide responsive service, communicate technical concepts clearly to varied audiences, set expectations, and follow issues through resolution or appropriate handoff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in technical business analysis, business systems analysis, technology delivery, or a related field.
  • Experience analyzing business processes and systems, defining complex requirements, mapping data and integrations, and recommending improvements.
  • Working knowledge of application architecture, integrations, APIs, data flows, access, security, reporting, and application support models.
  • Experience supporting technology implementations through discovery, requirements gathering, design validation, testing, operational readiness, and post-launch review.
  • Understanding of project intake, scope, estimates, dependencies, risks, change control, milestones, and governance.
  • Strong facilitation, analytical, problem-solving, writing, presentation, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, maintain detailed documentation, explain technical concepts clearly, and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Experience working with Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid methodologies and tools such as Visio, Lucidchart, Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet, Microsoft Planner, HighQ, or similar platforms.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working in a law firm, legal department, professional services organization, or similar customer-service environment.
  • Experience with enterprise applications, Microsoft 365 and Azure environments, cloud services, legal technology, workflow automation, AI tools, or system integrations.
  • Familiarity with identity and access management, data handling, security requirements, and application dependencies.
  • Experience maintaining application, infrastructure, data, vendor, or dependency inventories and service maps.
  • Experience with business impact analysis, continuity planning, or disaster recovery processes.
  • Business analysis, technical, process improvement, or service management certification.
  • Strong judgment, initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to challenge assumptions and recommend practical solutions.

The salary range for this position varies by geographical market. In Minneapolis, the estimated starting annual pay range is $95,000 - $110,000/year. The compensation offered will be dependent on the candidate’s experience, skills, education, professional background, overall qualifications, and geographic market location.
