Job summary

EXL is seeking a seasoned Technical Business Analyst to bridge business teams and data engineering. In a hybrid Pittsburgh role, you’ll translate complex stakeholder needs into clear requirements and agile user stories for Spark development.

You will partner with BI, data quality, and analytics teams, review Impala SQL queries, and guide solutions from concept to delivery, ensuring alignment with business goals and KPI targets.

Qualifications

• Must read and decompose complex Impala SQL queries into business requirements.
• Working knowledge of Apache Spark architecture to write development-ready stories.
• Experience creating user stories and documenting business requirements.
• Strong data quality knowledge and data integration principles.
• Translate stakeholder needs into precise engineering requirements.
• Proficient with Jira for sprint and backlog management.
• 5+ years in analytics, BI, or related data roles.
• Hands-on PySpark or Spark SQL experience.
• Experience with Tableau or Power BI.
• Familiarity with Hadoop or lakehouse platforms.
• Experience with statistical modeling or advanced analytics.
• Consulting or client-facing experience.
• Banking/financial services domain experience.

Salary Range: $100K/Yr - $120K/Yr Base + Annual Bonus

Must-Have Technical Skills

• Strong experience in user stories creation and business requirements documentation.
• Solid understanding of data integration principles and data quality best practices.
• Demonstrated ability to translate business stakeholder needs into precise technical requirements for engineering teams.
• Proficiency with agile tooling such as Jira for sprint and backlog management.
• 5+ years of experience in analytics, business intelligence, or a related data-focused role.

Good to Have

• Hands-on experience writing PySpark or Spark SQL.
• Hands-on experience with Business Intelligence (BI) tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent.
• Familiarity with Hadoop, data lake, or lakehouse platforms (Delta Lake, Iceberg, or similar).
• Experience with statistical modeling or advanced analytical techniques.
• Background in data modernization or platform migration programs.
• Prior consulting or client-facing professional services experience.
• Domain experience in banking or financial services.
