Technical Business Analyst – Financial Services
Location: New York, NY – Hybrid
3-5 days per week in Manhattan office
About the Company
Brio Digital is working with a leading AI technology company that partners with frontier AI research organisations and major global enterprises to accelerate the development and deployment of advanced AI systems.
The company operates at the cutting edge of AI, combining specialist technology talent, advanced engineering capabilities and AI expertise to help major organisations modernise critical business processes and deploy intelligent systems into production.
For this engagement, you'll join a global technology team supporting a leading alternative investment management organisation with an established track record across Private Equity, Credit and Real Assets.
This is an opportunity to work directly with business and technology stakeholders within a complex financial environment where operational accuracy, controls and high-quality software delivery are critical.
The Role
We're looking for an experienced Technical Business Analyst who can bridge the gap between complex business processes and software engineering.
You'll work closely with stakeholders across Operations, Finance, Product and Engineering, understanding how processes work today, identifying pain points and translating business requirements into clear, testable requirements that engineering teams can confidently build against.
This isn't simply a documentation role. You'll be expected to lead discovery, challenge ambiguity, understand workflows and data, and take ownership of requirements throughout the delivery lifecycle.
You'll also work within an AI-forward environment, using modern AI tooling to accelerate analysis and documentation while applying the judgement required to validate outputs and protect sensitive information.
Responsibilities
- Lead discovery sessions with stakeholders to understand current-state workflows, pain points, controls and desired outcomes.
- Translate ambiguous business problems into clearly defined problem statements, scope, assumptions, risks and success measures.
- Produce delivery-ready requirements including process flows, user stories, acceptance criteria and non-functional requirements.
- Work closely with engineers and product owners to refine requirements, resolve technical trade-offs and keep delivery moving.
- Understand and document data flows, system behaviours, APIs and integration requirements.
- Identify edge cases, exceptions, operational controls and dependencies within complex business processes.
- Define test scenarios and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to ensure delivered functionality meets business requirements.
- Maintain traceability between requirements, delivered functionality and intended business outcomes.
- Support auditability where required, including controls, approvals and data lineage.
- Communicate project status, decisions, risks and open questions clearly across business and technical stakeholders.
- Use AI tooling responsibly to accelerate tasks such as summarisation, documentation, comparison and gap analysis while validating accuracy.
- Take end-to-end ownership of analysis activities with minimal oversight.
Required Experience
- 8+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Technical Business Analyst or in a similar requirements-focused role.
- Demonstrable experience working on real software delivery projects.
- Strong discovery and requirements-gathering capabilities.
- Ability to translate stakeholder conversations into structured, testable technical requirements.
- Experience producing user stories, acceptance criteria, process maps and other delivery documentation.
- Comfortable participating in technical discussions around APIs, data flows, integrations and system behaviour.
- Strong understanding of workflows, data, edge cases and operational controls.
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to create documentation that can be immediately used by both engineering and business teams.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to manage competing requirements and resolve disagreements professionally.
- Ability to operate independently and own projects or workstreams from discovery through delivery.
- Strong judgement, attention to detail and ability to work effectively in complex environments.
Experience in any of the following would be particularly valuable:
- Financial Services or Investment Management
- Private Equity, Credit or Real Assets
- Back-office Operations
- Finance or Accounting
- Reconciliations and financial reporting
- Control-oriented or highly regulated environments
- Backlogs, sprint planning and iterative development
- SQL and working with data stores
- Reporting and analytics requirements
- Event-driven architectures
- Workflow and orchestration systems
- Messaging-based systems
- Data lineage and audit trails
- AI-enabled analysis and productivity tooling
Who This Role Would Suit
This role would suit an experienced Business Analyst who is genuinely comfortable working with engineers and technical systems, rather than someone focused exclusively on business process or project coordination.
You don't need to be a software engineer, but you should be comfortable discussing APIs, system integrations, data flows, and application behaviour and know which questions to ask when defining requirements.
It could be particularly well suited to someone currently working as a:
- Technical Business Analyst
- Senior Business Analyst
- Business Systems Analyst
- Financial Services Business Analyst
- Investment Management Business Analyst
- Product-focused Business Analyst
