Job summary

Job description

Job Objective

Under the direction of the department Director and/or designee, performs a wide variety of clerical tasks, technical duties, and transportation for all radiology modalities requiring a high degree of accuracy with latitude for independent initiative and judgment. Promotes, follows, and adheres to the values set by AVH. Delivers quality customer service which meets or exceeds expectations to patients, physician office staff, and other customers.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Technical Support
  • Assist technologist with moving patients on and off the exam table within employee’s own bodily implant restrictions relative to radiology, e.g., AICDs, pacemakers, etc.
  • Transport patients between both hospital areas and all radiology modalities.
  • Support and assist technologist with daily patient workflow.
  • Review and verify in conjunction with technologist on patient orders, patient history, and lab work pertaining to specific exam.
  • Assist technologist and radiologist, as needed.
  • Report any equipment malfunction to supervisor or manager.
  • Prepare exam rooms for upcoming exam.
  • Work in any area and be flexible in meeting the needs of the department.
  • Complete exams in RIS and check PACS to ensure exam has crossed into the system.
  • Clean and disinfect exam rooms, as needed.
  • Observe safety measures as they pertain to modalities assigned, radiation protection, and MRI safety.
  • Assist with stockroom responsibilities ensuring adequate supply inventories.
  • Follow established department procedures to accurately verify and transport the proper patient by visually checking patient identification or verifying with nursing staff.
  • Adhere to the Patient Identification Policy.
  • Clerical Support
  • Assist in obtaining patient signature on validated consent forms.
  • Obtain authorization for release of radiology records.
  • Burn CDs, print films, and digitize, as needed.
  • Telephone Support
  • Answer telephone in compliance with the hospital telephone etiquette.
  • Document accurate messages and/or route calls to the appropriate parties.
Non-Essential Duties
  • Assist with other duties as assigned, within skill sets and abilities.
  • Assist in special projects, as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of English language, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology, preferred.
Skills
  • Knowledge of basic personal computer.
  • Proficient in the operations of computers, scanners, copiers, and fax machines, preferred.
Abilities
  • Ability to greet and assist patients, visitors and other customers in a professional manner.
  • Ability to transfer patients safely.
  • Ability to evaluate problems and suggest and/or implement solutions independently.
  • Ability to be flexible in meeting the staffing requirements of the department.

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED
Experience
  • Previous experience assisting Technologists in a clinical environment, preferred.
  • Previous patient transport experience in a healthcare environment, preferred.
Required Licensure and/or Certifications
  • BLS certification

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Frequently lift, push, pull up to and over 50 lbs as required to transport patients, charts, specimens, and required equipment to various treatment and diagnostic areas throughout the hospital and its grounds.
  • Frequent bending and twisting.
  • Occasionally work within confined areas and expose to iodizing radiation and outdoor weather elements.
