Under the supervision of the Theater Technical Director and working with the Lenfest Center Manager of Technical Operations, the Technical Assistant participates in the day-to-day technical execution of productions in the Lenfest Center for the Arts' three performance venues. The Technical Assistant acts as a facility representative, managing scheduling and equipment needs for production, rehearsals and shows. The working schedule for this role must adapt to the rehearsal and performance schedule of the facility; as such, the Technical Assistant is expected to work many evening and weekend events as a primary job responsibility.

Essential Functions
- Assist the Theater Technical Director and the Manager of Technical Operations to develop schedules for set-ups, rehearsals, performances, and strikes. Creates a staffing schedule for Lenfest events that includes work-study students and part-time stage employees.
- Assists with production needs of academic departments.
- Oversee the load-in, set-up, and strike of lighting, audio and video equipment for designated events.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards for audio-visual and lighting equipment operation.
- Operate the mechanical lift as required, setting up and adjusting equipment at heights up to 40 feet in the air.
- Schedule a qualified representative to be present at all rental set-ups and strikes.
- Attend technical rehearsals and performances serving as a representative of the Lenfest Center and the University.
- Ensure that each performance is adequately staffed to deliver the most professional experience possible.
- Assist with stage management, design work and other responsibilities as requested.
- Provide supervision for work-study students assisting in set-up, performance or strike of events.
- Train part time staff and work-study students working in a technical capacity, ensuring safety standards are maintained.
- Maintain the theatrical equipment and performance facilities, under the supervision of the Manager of Technical Operations.
- Provide input for the preparation of the annual capital request detailing replacement equipment required and major repairs or service visits needed.
- Working knowledge of current lighting technology. DMX prtocol, safe hanging and focusing of lights as well as use of LED and moving lights.
- Additional related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: This is a full-time, benefit-eligible role with an anticipated fixed term of one year beginning in July 2025 and concluding June 30, 2026. This position works 35 hours per week and will include evenings and weekends.
Minimum Pay: $25.41 - Pay Commensurate with Experience
Minimum Qualifications
- Professional experience in an applicable field. A Bachelor's degree in a performance production field is desired.
- Basic knowledge of all elements of technical production including sound, projection and lighting.
- Willingness to learn new skills, software and hardware.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Working knowledge of both Windows and Apple computers. Proficient in MS Office, particularly PowerPoint.
- Experience with the following systems and equipment is desired: ETC Eos; Yamaha CL series consoles; Dante; working knowledge of Vectorworks; basic video camera operation.

Physical Requirements

This factor is important if the amount and kind of balancing the amount and kind of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
- Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.
- Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
- Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
- Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
- Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
- Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
- Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
- Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
- Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.
Working Conditions
- The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
- The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
Types of Work: Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
